Hey Peggy, thanks for joining the Utah thread. I'm usually quicker at checking here but I have a good excuse, I am 6-days post op from my weight loss surgery!
I love your attitude, never give up. Good for you. I admire you for hanging in there despite some of your weight regain. Congrats on those 9 new pounds gone though. You can do this!

I had Medicaid-Healthy U. Salt lake regional accepted this. There is also Rocky mountain, but I'm not sure what they accept. I had to pay for the education class and a couple of other things, out of pocket it cost me $ 800.00, But well worth it!!! Good luck to you =) Jenn

Sorry it's been so long since I've written here. There are updates though that you can read over at my blog. www.seanstransformation.blogspot.com. I hope you'll all visit me over there. You can reply to my messages and you can even email me (email address is listed in my profile that can be accessed through my blog).
I hope everyone has been well. I had plastic surgery on 4/23/09. I'm almost 2 weeks into the recovery phase. All the swelling has yet to go down but it's made a huge difference. I'm also a lot lighter. I've been fluctuating this week between 212 lbs and 218 lbs. woo-hoo!!
Hope to hear from everyone soon.

I am super late but I am Shelly from North Ogden. Dr Rodrick McKinlay was my surgeon and I really like him alot. I am struggling the last month with my weight loss but it is my own fault so I am trying to get back on the wagon.
I am 43 (on Thursday) down 28 pounds and 4 months post-op. Married, 5 children, four grandchildren, non-LDS, work full-time for North Ogden City and enjoy riding motorcycles and camping.
Nice to meet you all.

Topic: BMI 35 and I have Medicare, Any Utah docs accept Medicare?
Hello,
I have a BMI of 35 with GERD, knee/hip problems and pulmonary hypertension as well as high cholesterol. I think I would qualify for RNY gastric bypass but are there any doctors in the Salt Lake Valley that accept Medicare??? What does Medicare cover, do I have to pay a co-pay? Has anyone with Medicare had gastric bypass in the SL Valley? If so can you please let me know what steps you took? I'm really scared, and I have a hard time talking to people (very shy.)
Thank you.

Hey all! I'm posting late but wanted to get in here and get acquainted!
I'm a southern'er (Cedar City) and had my RNY on 7/13/06 in St. George. All my gory details and surgeon review are on my profile.
In nutshell: I started at 384, got to 240'ish, in a year got to up to 297 and am now 288 (got back on the straight and narrow this past Monday - ya think I was bloated? lol)
I run a support group here in Cedar City and refuse to give up. As I gained it got increasingly harder to run that meeting every month, but I kept going, no matter what. (Yes, I am also a cousin once removed from Bill W. - in case that "no matter what" sounded familar)
Glad to see some activity around this board :)
Have a great weekend!

To say I'm shocked doesn't even begin to describe it. How did that entire thing fit inside my little pouch? guess it's not so little anymore. Scary, scary!!!
But it goes to show how easy it is to get off track and to go back to the old eating ways if you don't stay vigilant. Learning how to eat right is of utmost importance during your initial journey (which is 24 months -- even if you lose all the weight before then). Right around that point, you get to where you can eat most anything and if you still have the same bad eating habits (grazing, sweets, etc) then you're going to struggle. Hell, you'll struggle anyway but it'll be even more difficult if you don't get into some good habits now.
Just remember, what they said is true. The gastric bypass is a tool. A tool by which we can control our eating for life. But the work still has to come from you. Don't be fooled by the fact that the first bit as you recover from the surgery is so easy. The weight flies off and you can't eat much. It's easy to think it will always be that way but it won't. Learn!!! Practice!!! Change your life!!!

How Did I Eat So Much
So today at lunch I went to Legers to get a sandwich. I bought a half roll with turkey and cheese (just light mayo) and a little lettuce. I took it back to the office and at the turkey and cheese. After that I was on the phone and I started eating a little of the roll (kind of absentmindedly). Before I knew it, I had eaten the entire half roll.To say I'm shocked doesn't even begin to describe it. How did that entire thing fit inside my little pouch? guess it's not so little anymore. Scary, scary!!!
