Need A Little Assistance?
I have my seminar scheduled for October 13, 2009 down in Lehi. Surgical WLS of Utah. Drs Cottam and Richards.
If anyone has had surgery done through this clinic, how did it go? How was aftercare? Quite a few people I work with have had WLS, but since I don't have our insurance, I had to go to another provider. (Tricare)
Thanks for any help.
Linda
I didn't have surgery done through this clinic, but almost did. I went through everything they wanted me to, and met Dr Cottam. I didn't like him one bit. While I was in his office he seemed like he was more interested on surfing the internet than talking to me about the surgery, etc. So I went through somebody else. Then they of course charged me a couple hundred dollars for me sitting there and talking to myself for 20 minutes.
Wow. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with him. My consult went really well. He was on the laptop reading the online questionnaire that I had filled out, just to go over my answers with me. I had my pre-op today and he was great; very personable and we traded wisecracks. I liked him.
I do see Dr. Smith did your surgery. I have heard really good things about him from four of my co-workers who had their surgery through him. If I had been able to have Dr. Smith or Dr. Simper do my surgery, I would've. Unfortunately, they didn't accept Tricare.
You definitely have to have a certain level of trust with your surgeon. I'm glad that I was able to attain that with Dr. Cottam.

I loved Dr. Cottam! He was on his computer looking at my stuff I had completed on line so he could read about me. Once he was done with that, he was with me. I met with Rocky Mt Phy, and did not feel comfortable with them. I guess everyone is different. One good thing with Dr. Cottam, if you call him after hours, you get to talk to him. It transfers to his cell phone. Not an answering service. He also tells you if you need to stay in the hospital longer, you can. No extra charge. He fixed my haital hernia for no extra charge too. The other clinic would charger me more in surgeon fees an anesthesiologist fees.
I love Dr Cottam. I have never asked him a question he could not answer. He is very knowledgeable about WLS, nutrition and co-morbid conditions. Because of my health issues I was considered high risk which is why I picked Dr Cottam to do my surgery. He seemed extremely competant and I felt secure that if any complications arose...he would be able to fix it.
Well, here I am nearly 4 months past surgery and I have had no, zip, zero, nada complications.
