Hi Everyone I am 5 yrs post op and need help and encouragement. I lost 105 lbs in the first 8 months. I was 15 lbs from goal, and I had a couple of bites (honest - that's all) and it stopped my weightloss dead in its tracks! Nobody (including the surgeons office) told me that if you start eating carbs, that this would happen. They just said not to eat carbs. Who can resist warm homemade bread? LOL! I understand carbs and how they affect me, a whole lot more now, than 5 yrs ago. My problem is I am an emotional eater, and my marriage is not the greatest and I munch a lot on peanut M&M's. Depression is a big part of my life, and I take anti depressants. It's an uphill battle. I take my vitamins again and protein drinks and have a treadmill now. I know all I have to do is eat right and in the right amounts......... easier said than done. Does anyone live near West Point? I really need a friend I can talk to and be with. I am thinking about going to St. Marks for the support group as the one in Davis Co. is no longer there. Any encouragement is welcome Thanks Carole

Hey! Try posting this on the Main Board. 1. There is a wider audience and I see Utahns there more then here. 2. You can get more encouragment from those who have "been there" no matter where they live. Sorry you are having such a hard time....sometimes this wls stuff just sucks. T.

Hey Carole, Boy do I hear everything you are saying.  I am new on this website, just today.  I am hoping to see that I am not alone in this battle.  I had the surgery in December 2003, I lost 160 lbs but have found 60 of them back.  I cannot get past this point, I need to start losing them again.  I am soooooo frustrated.  It is good to see that I am not alone. I live in West Valley City........so I am not far.   Sandy

Hate it for you.  My first thought was, "get rid of the husband".  But my second thought, was don't say that.  I'm single and 37, marriage was annuled many moons ago.  Haven't dated in 8 years, actually not by choice, just noone has asked... well, the guy at the post office don't count - he curses like a sailor. But this came to mind due to your 'emotional' eating.  Relationships can make or break a person.  Can lift them up or tear them down.

My weight was by choice, I chose to eat.  But being a single mother, being both Mother and Father, the breadwinner and nurturer... can cause any person to crack.  And crack I did.... no, not alcohol, not drugs, not smoking... FOOD. Eating was always worse when I was married or dating.  I lost a hundred pounds starting 8 years ago.  And now I've chosen surgery, the band to help me more.  CT, it's gonna be a battle, but I've learned how essential it is to BATTLE the emotions, some days you will be victorious... others... not.  But you are the only you... claim your independence from emotions.  (That's what July 4th is for me each year.  Independece from one more 'thing' in my life that drags me down.) Good luck and post again to let us know how you are coming along! (oh, marriage is sacred and please don't anyone misunderstand my comment.  Your spouse can be your best friend, your support, well, should be is more like it.  Nurture your marriage and yourself.)

Hi, Carole.  My name is Gloria (mokimom) and I have NOT had the surgery but am doing great amounts of research and am seriously looking at Dr. R. Chad Halversen and St. Mark's Hospital in SLC.  I live in Ogden, near Weber High, just off 3100 North.  Used to live in Clearfield, 35 years ago. I am an emotional, grazing, carb eater and your blog is the first I've read about not being able to eat carbs.  They're my biggest problem, undoubtedly.  If only I could stop craving them I wouldn't need to consider surgery.  What can you eat?  Just baby food?  I've even told my sleep apnea doctor that I plan to make myself eat only baby food type things and not do the surgery, but just don't have the will power.  I thought the lap band would eliminate all hunger.  Is that what you had done?  Should I be looking at a mini-gastric bypass instead?  I am turning 61 and afraid that age may be against me.  How old are you?  Bread is the worst to give up, don't you think? Gloria

My husband and I are 62 and we had our surgery on Oct. 10, 2007. We are thankful we did. He is already off diabetes medicine. We are looking forward to our new life together. Jo Ann

If you are still having trouble with your ticker, here is what worked for me. Jo Ann

Tickers:
I don't know if you have gotten to your ticker production yet.
If you haven't
find someone's ticker and you will see above it "ticker factory".
Click on that. If it doesn't work on one find another.
You can actually click on the actual ticker
if you are just trying to change your ticket by updating it.
This will take you to the site.
Click "create your own ticker."
Scroll down and click on "Weight loss".
It shows different tickers.
Click on one that you like.
Click next at the bottom of the page.
To get the clicker slider, choose one and click on the circle.
Click at the bottom of the page where it says "next".
Choose a password.
Fill out the chart.
Click again on "next" at the bottom of the page.
Fill out the chart.
Click again on "next".
Right click on the copy of your ticker.
Click copy.
Come back to this posting site. This may be difficult.
Do it like you got to the site the first time. That works for me.
There is a blue box at the left.
Click on "User Settings".
You will see a box for signature.
At bottom of the page make sure you change the default editor to "plain text".
Right click on box for signature.
If this is the first time it will be blank.
If it is the second time and you are updating your ticker click on the actual ticker in the box and paste your ticker.
Go to bottom of page and click on "enable signature".
Click on "save".
