Hi Kyzze,

Having been around OH since 2008 I have seen the demise of not just this board but several of them to oblivion.  FB did not help either.  OH used to have several conventions a year and for several of those one of the conventions was in Texas, Dallas or Houston.  Those were educational and some great socializing.

FWI: I/we are 60 miles or so S/SE of Dallas.

I would love it if we could more people to participate in the Texas weight loss forum. It would be wonderful to talk to people closer to home. Also I am looking for a Texas weith loss support group.

I went to Southwest Bariatric in Austin. It is near the UT area near Seton Hospital on 38th street. My surgeon was Dr. Nancy Marquez.

I have recently. I eat fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds and gains. Mostly in that order. What guidelines did he give you to follow? I dropped the holiday weight I had been struggling with and I don't feel weak. I think in the end learning to have a healthy relationship with food is key.

You are considering this backwards. You should figure out which surgery you want/think you want, and find a surgeon that can perform it.

I went to a couple of surgeons when I first started this journey. The first surgeon told me I should only consider the RNY or the lapband- he did not give me any other choices. The 2nd consult told me to consider the DS- I did and almost 10 years later, I'm very happy with my choice.

I would call your insurance or look at your policy online. My policy covered 80% after I met the deductible if I went to select hospitals (I work for a hospital...so I have to go to their hospital--thankfully its one of the best hospitals in the country!)

Hello, everyone.  New to the forum and have lots questions.  I have been overweight since a baby and am finally about to take step towards a Gastric Sleeve surgery.  I am a graduate student at UT with the UT select insurance.  I am aware this plan has a high deductible and was wondering if any of you was in similar situation, and how much was the final out of pocket cost.  Also, what surgeon would you recommend around Austin/SA area.  Thank you very much, guys.

Hi Penny,

The Texas Message board is pretty much dead here on OH.   You might want to go to the Vertical Gastric Sleeve message board and ask these questions there or even call your surgeon's office and ask them these questions.   As far as the weight loss....I can tell you that depends on the individual person and how they follow the rules that are given to be successful with the surgery.   Remember it is ONLY a tool...NOT a miracle that the weight will fall off of you.   It takes LOTS of very hard work to loose the weight.    Good luck to you and I'm sorry I couldn't help you more.   I am 10 yrs post op RNY.   Best choice I've made in my life.   Good luck to you.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

My surgery date is set for 12/28 - (hopefully since it depends on my continuing to not smoke). My gastric sleeve surgery will be performed by Dr. Duperier at BMI of Texas in San Antonio.  I am 5'2 and my highest weight was 263.  No selfie to post as I thought I would wait until just before my surgery to take one (hate cameras).

My first question has to do with meetings.  Does anyone know of any meeting in SA that meets during the day?  I have night blindness and am unable to drive home from meetings that start at 6:30pm during the winter months or at least after this dang DLS time change.  I do not personally know anyone who is attending the meetings or I would offer to pay for a ride to and from the evening meetings.

Second question - what does it mean with someone says their gastric sleeve has "loss its restriction"? I assume it means that the stomach can get big again.

Third question - What is the average weight loss with gastric sleeve the first month or two after the surgery?  And how soon can one be up and about at home doing their daily chores?  I am the caregiver for my 87 year old mom and wonder how long I should plan to hire someone to help.

Thanks

Penny
