Newbie here
Hello. I went to a couple of WLS seminars & yesterday I had my consultation with the Dr & his nurse. I've been wanting surgery for about 20 years but was too afraid cuz it was new & they only did RNY back then. I am soooo ready for my WLS. I have another appt on Jan. 8 so I've gotta do a psych eval, meet with a nutritionist & have a fitness eval by then. I'm looking to schedule my sleeve during Spring Break.
is one week enough recuperation time? Are the protein drinks tasty? Nervous about going back to work on an all liquid diet. Still having a hard time wrapping my head around no sodas, no fried foods & no sweets.

Welcome Musicteech,
I take it you are a music teacher. I am Vivian that Saundra was speaking of. My group meeting is held in Keller. My meeting is held at Carroll Watkins Driving School....303 N. Main Keller, Tx. 76248. We meet for 1 hour from 3:30 - 4:30. You are welcome to attend if you'd like. I am a RNY Patient 8 yrs post op so I truly can't give you a accurate time that you'd be out but teaching music ( if that is what you do ) I would think you might be able to go back....you could try it anyway as long as you don't lift anything heavy. Welcome to the Texas Message Board and good luck getting your things in order for surgery.
Hugs and blessings ~~ Vivian

Hi Musicteech,
Congrats on getting the WLS process started. A week may not be enough time--my husband and I are both teachers that were sleeved this summer. I had mine done in July, and he had his done the week before school started in August. He still had to take a few days off during that week of inservice before he went back to work. You may want to consider sitting out an extra week to give yourself time to recuperate if you've got the days to take off. I know I could not have gone back to teaching full days a week after my surgery. Also consider that you will not be able to lift anything over 10 pounds for a few weeks post-op, so if you are a band or orchestra director, you will not be able to lift or move a lot of the instruments, etc.
Protein drinks can be hit or miss. Start sampling some now so that you can find a couple you like. Just don't buy a whole bunch of them right before surgery because your tastes will change after surgery.
Good luck!
