I've done wall stenciling instead. I buy the stencil, the wall paint and dauber at Hobby Lobby. I don't think I've ever spent more than $10-$20 total for an entire room. It gives me more creative freedom with colors, patterns etc.

Molly....you might try Craigslist also for furniture. I know one of my son's got some Free furniture there and it wasn't in bad shape at all. Congrats on your house and have lots of fun decorating it. You might also find some wonderful treasures in Garage Sales.

GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CAN NOT CHANGE; COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS THAT I CAN; AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE !!!! THIS IS MY DAILY PRAYER.

Congrats on your house. Wallpaper is much harder to change out when you get tired of it. Painting is cheaper and easier. I have wallpaper, but am getting rid of it as I redecorate. It isn't used often nowadays. Check out faux painting techniques at Lowes and Home depot. You can get a rich custom look with colors you like and it's easier to redo later.
