Blood sugar update 2
Hello everyone,
It has been a while since I last checked into board been busy. The last time I had mention about low blood sugar problem that had developed. Since that development a few things have happened I replaced my old laptop and got a new tablet. However, more important there has been no real big improvement in my health which had me see my doctor this past Monday. The doctor asked how the blood sugar levels been when I have been testing and for the most part they have been good except for a few times. She decided that since I am still feeling the effects of low blood sugar even with good blood sugar readings to have blood work drawn on me. The doctor suspects that I am pre-diabetic and will eventually become full on diabetic and placed me on a medication to help stabilize my blood sugar plus. I got the blood test result late Wednesday which confirmed the doctor's hunch and for now on I am to consider myself a full on diabetic. However, the blood test also indicated that I may have further problems my red blood count is high and uric acid is elevated, which has the doctor extremely concerned. She has since ordered and scheduled both a ultrasound and CT scan of my abdominal area to not only to address the abnormal blood test results, but also to make sure that there is no cancer/ tumor causing the blood sugar problem. She is also suspecting that I may have kidney problems that may be the reason for the abnormal blood test results. So this coming Wednesday I get to spend most of my day starving and at a imaging center. Now, I still consider my self as fairly healthy but my wife begs to differ. I go back to my doctor in about week for more blood work to see if there is any changes. I am hoping that everything gets resolved soon and I can get back to feeling normal. As it is when I am away from the house my wife keeps track of me as a precaution. I will keep everyone updated to what is going on. Again I apologize my disappearance.

Were you diabetic prior to gastric bypass? There are new studies coming out that show although type 2 diabetics see significant improvement in blood surgery after surgery or remission; at 5 years out 30% are seeing diabetes return and requiring meds and/or insulin. Here is one study of over 4000 patients....it appears that the longer someone was diabetic prior to surgery, meds or insulin taken may impact the participants more.

I thought I was doing pretty good with the blood sugar only detected twice on meter blood sugar being low. However, A1C tells a different story about the blood sugar levels. I agree with the need for the testing and really do mind having to have it done. The only bad thing is the prerequisites for the test. I can not having anything to eat or drink after 3 AM that day and I will not be able to eat until completion of both imaging procedures 7:15 AM to 12:15 PM. Part of keeping my blood sugar in check is eating every 3 hours. Basically, I believe my blood sugar may drop like a rock . I am going to make sure I have my stuff with me ie glucose meter, glucose tablets and a protein bar so that as soon as I am done I can check level make corrects if needed. Truthfully I do expect something to be found on one if not both imaging procedures. However, I am hoping no tumor of any type is found. Once I find anything out I will post a update.
Michael....I was really hoping that NO news from you meant "good news". You and your family will be in my prayers. I'm praying that whatever they find it will be a easy fix. I'm so sorry that you are still dealing with these issues. Please do update us and praying you have no problems wednesday with the tests being done.
Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

Well, I have been really busy with work and taking on new roles and responsibilities, plus got a couple of new technology toys I had to setup, which is part of the reason not on much. However, I have been extremely sore and tired for a while with now improvement since seeing the doctor forced me to see her again. I thought I was doing good been following her orders and blood sugars had been pretty good. However, before the blood confirmed it she was suspecting that I am pre-diabetic and the A1C proved it. So, treated as if I have diabetes and prescribe a medication to help stabilize blood sugar. Her concern is that with the gastric byoass the chances of getting diabetes is reduced greatly so she is wondering why if I have not had a problem in the past with diabetes what is causing it now. She is suspecting that possibly a tumor might be the underlining cause. As I mentioned above a couple of blood test results came back abnormal red blood count and uric acid; which has be doctor concerned that I may have Gout or some kidney related problem. It is both issues that have led to the need of two imaging procedures. I am taking everything in stride and will worry once I know more of what is going on. Right now wife is stressing and worrying enough for the both of us. I have simply told her there is nothing we can do until the test are done and a cause found. I have been trying to convince my wife to let me take myself to the imaging appointment but she is concerned I am going to be very sick because my blood sugar will more than likely drop low and the contrast.
Thank you for the prayers. I am hoping that we can get answers from the test and that it is indeed something simple to fix. I will keep everyone update as I know anything.
