XX - Less than one wee****il WLS
See my latest blog post, for "the rest of the story".
I just got home (Lubbock, TX) from my daughter's house, in Dallas, where I spent a few days before surgery. I have FOUR days to get everything done I have to get done before turning around and driving back to Dallas, surgery.
This is my question: What should I expect and/or ask of my doctor and his staff for support and follow-up/aftercare?? I know my surgeon, Dr. Daryl Stewart, is one of THE BEST surgeons around, BUT....the Pre-op and aftercare, from what I've heard, is lacking. What should I insist on as his patient? And is that practical?
Anyone?

Susie....I would ask Dr. Stewart if there is anyone he trusts that is a bariatric surgeon in the Lubbock area that if you have something come up that needs immediate attention that you can go see and will treat you. As a 7+ yr. WLS patient I do know that sometimes something comes up and you have to go to your local ER and you need to know someone that you can turn to especially since your having your WLS out of your area. Hopefully he will give you a book on what he expects his patients to do ( rather eat ) and when to do that. I have heard of some that do your surgery and tell you to go and live life and lose your weight. That is SO wrong doing people like that. Since your not doing DS I wish you had used my surgeon. His after care is tops IMHO. We have support groups out the wa zoo !!! LOL You need to ask if you can get a list of what blood work needs to be done and when ( that is something you can have done at your PCP if he will give you a list of what vitamins he needs checked and when ). I wish I could tell you more but not being a VSG patient I truly have limited knowledge on what to tell you. You might go to the VSG board and ask them these as well and maybe some of those facebook groups I told you about. I know you will do well and I will be talking to you Susie before your surgery. Sorry it's not going to work out with our meeting but it is really for the best since you need to get rest and focus on you. Love you my friend.

Vivian,
Dr. Stewart has given me a local doctor's name that he trusts and uses for his Lubbock patients. I just didn't know if I needed to expect more. Does that make sense??
I also posted this on main forum AND VSG board. Gina told me to put an "X" in the subject line if I duplicated a post on several boards. Is that right??
Susie
Hi Susie,
That is great that he has a local doctor that he refers his patients to. I don't really think there is anything out of the ordinary with VSG from the other WLS at least as far as I know. As far as the X in the subject line.....I post on lots of message boards here 5 days a week and I've never put a X in the subject line. So I'm at a loss as to the answer to that. LOL
