Low Blood Sugar Update

I saw the doctor today and discussed everything that has happened over the weekend.  I also found out what my blood sugar was from my blood test two weeks ago, which was 45 and is consider to be dangerously low.   After doing a glucose test in the office after I had something to eat.  She believes that I need to every 2-3 hours and that I am not eating enough for my level of activity.  So, I need to look at my meal plan and arrange things accordingly.  I also need to boost up my fluid intake a little.  The doctor also prescribed me a glucose monitor and wants me to keep close eye on my blood sugar level.  Right now I am feeling pretty good and hopefully will be able to stay that way for now.  I was glad to get some answers and a new game plan in that I will start implementing today.

I just got back from CVS with my new glucose monitor.  I already started using first strip error out for not enough blood.  The second strip was fine read a normal 88.  Even though 88 is a good number I ate a protein bar roughly a hour and 10 minutes prior to testing so the number should have been even higher. Well, I am not worried now that I have the glucose meter and the doctor's new instructions for quickly raising the level.

I went to bed early for a change and actually got a lot of sleep for a change.  I am tempted to check my blood sugar this morning but no going to bother since I do not feel to bad just my allergies acting up this morning. The doctor wants me to check my blood sugar when I feel any of the symptoms of low blood sugar.  I need to get some glucose tablets today and I need to purchase some more lancets.  Right now eating breakfast protein cereal and then do some things around the house. Then go out run errands and get those things I mentioned.  We will see how well the new plan works over the next few days I may need to change up some food items to make it all work correctly.  Thank you everyone for being concerned and the prayers I really appreciate it a lot.

It is funny I ate breakfast about 8:30 this morning and just a few minutes ago start feeling light headed and nausea.  Checked my blood sugar it was down to 79 still in the normal range but low.  I went ahead and ate a protein bar with enough sugar to raise blood sugar up.  So it looks like about two hours after I eat my blood sugar will drop below the normal range.  So it is beginning to look like two hours after eating something my blood sugar will be below the normal range.  I will be watching things closely for now.

I think n general that 2 hours after eating is the oral time it takes...maybe you will figure out a schedule for when you need to raise your blood sugar back up to normal. I feel for you...it has to be a pain, but a necessary one.

Well, I consider it more a inconvenience than anything else. Mainly because it has changed my routine that has been in place since about 3 months after my gastric bypass.  The testing with a glucose monitor does not bug since I have a high tolerance for pain and the lancer for my meter system virtually painless due to a it using a very fine gauge needle.  The important thing is I re-arrange my meal plan to include several small meals and to have emergency items available if my blood sugar gets dangerously low again. It is like I always say weight loss and a healthy lifestyle are a never ending battle.  My low blood sugar is another one of those battle I must face daily.  I enjoy challenges and this going to be a challenge to keep everything in check.  One thing I am curious about is what my blood sugar level is when I first wake so tomorrow morning I am going to check it when I get up to see how low it gets overnight.  The really challenge is when I switch to my night shift work schedule starting tomorrow.  I have to really watch caloric intake as well so it going to take work.  Thank you for the concern and support like I said this going to take hard work to manage everything.
