Hi, I'm new here.
Hi, my name is Stephanie and I had RNY on New Year's Eve. I just found this website a couple of weeks ago and it is not like me to post a message like this. But my motto for this year is New Year--New Me, so I'm just going for it. I could use some online friends to help me get through this. So I had my surgery and the next day I failed the leak test, which is ironic because I'm usually a good test-taker. Anyway, I had to go back into surgery the next day, so I spent 4 days in the hospital instead of 2. But that's in the past now. I'm healing well and not having much trouble with food, except figuring out what I should be eating, and trying to get enough protein, and being tired of eating the same stuff all the time. I think I'm still supposed to be on soft foods, but I don't see my doctor again till Feb.4. Here are some things I'm having trouble with:
1. Missing real coffee--when can I have it again?
2. Having a hard time not drinking while I eat, at least sipping water.
3. Can't figure out how to get in enough water when I have to sip it, and then stop drinking before and after eating.
Hope I don't sound like I'm whining. just trying to figure this all out and do everything right. So far I've lost 32 pounds so that's great. Can anybody tell me when the often-mentioned "burst of energy" will hit? Haha.
Looking forward to making some new friends here,
Stephanie
As far as coffee drinking, your surgeon will have to allow that. I don't remember not being ale to have it, but I had my surgery 7 years ago. I may have forgotten.
Make sure you don't drink when you eat. If you don't have it with you then, you can't drinkit. It is a bad habit to get into right now since you are ot supposed to be doing it. It's hard to give it up when you have done it your whole life, but it is doable.
As far as getting enough water in, just sip as often as you can in between eating. Drink if you wake up at night. You willbe able to drink more as you get further out. Making yourself drink enough water and fluids is a lifelong job now, just like getting in enough protein and trying to stay away from things you shouldn't eat. Unfortunately, it's reality with weight loss surgery.
You will he happy you have had it. I'm happy with it 7 years later. Mits certainly allowed me to do a lot of things I used to ot be able to do, plus live a uh healthier life. Anything you have to sacrifice or go thruis worth the effort.

As far as the burst of energy, you will get that when you have fully recuperated from the surgery and your body has started adjusting better. Give it more time.
