I have always read the Rny and main forums and was just made aware there was a state by state list of forums. I live in Houston and am having my surgery Thursday. My husband says he is staying home Wednesday to watch me as I am a flight risk! I am really totally petrified one hour, thrilled to do it the next, crying for a while then seem to forget about it for a while. I wake up at 2 am and am not going to do it but when the sun comes up I am back on track - sorta. Of course I am going through with it but just so scared. Not used to the hospital. My only problem is a tad of high blood pressure and the weight of course. It sure is slowing me down. This is great. I will check in regularly. I will be at Methodist in the medical center which is 10 minutes from my house. This is too long but I am happy to find Texans.

Thanks for the response. I am sure all will be well. I think I am past the point of no return. Just freaking out a little here. I was actually asking for info on a good eating disorder therapist in the Houston area and they told me to go to the Texas forum. So I found you by accident. Lucky me. So anyone know of a good therapist to keep my head on track in the coming battle. I estimate I need to lost about 130 lbs realistically. I don't work so it can be all about me for a change. The program and exercise or what exercise is possible with these bad knees I deal with daily is my priority. Again thanks for responding. I will be in Methodist till first of next week then back online. Later new friends.....

Welcome to the Texas Message Board Molly,

This use to be a super active board...but not really so much anymore.    Not really very many from Houston area posting here anymore.    I will go to Facebook and see if some of my Houston friends can suggest one for you.   Also if you need a good support group to attend in Houston I will see if one of my friends there still have a group or several of them going.    Maybe Karla will pop on here and respond.    She lives somewhere outside of Houston area.    Good luck to you on thursday.    Your life is about to change drasticly but trust me....it is ALL going to be good.    As far as exercising....try walking around your home for 5 minutes at a time 6 X's a day.    I know my surgeon wanted his newly post op patients walking 30 minutes a day for the first few weeks.     You will be amazed how that will help you.   PLEASE keep your body moving if at all possible....that really helps with your weight loss and only eat the things allowed  by your surgeon.    You will be in my thoughts and prayers.   Please update us on you when you feel like it after your surgery.    I know you will do great !!!

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CAN NOT CHANGE;   COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS THAT I CAN;  AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE !!!!    THIS IS MY DAILY PRAYER.

Don't be too scared. Being too large should be more scary than having the surgery and gaining freedom from the weight. You probably need to ask your surgeon about a realist. They may have a recommendation. You could also do an Internet research, but it may be more difficult to find one there that specializes in eating disorders, but you can give it a try. Mary Jo Rapini is the only one know from Houston. she speaks at a lot if weight loss seminars and works with Garth Davis and his father, or did on their WLS tv show a few years back. She used to speak at my Hermann Hospital support group.

Best wishes!

Karla

I know MaryJo.  I kept Serina for her when she was a baby so MJo has been in my life and to my home many times.  I was trying not to use her as a counselor but she is probably my best source of another recommendation.  She is no longer with Davis. I emailed her back when I started this in September and we chatted back and forth until I found out she was in Australia on vacation.  She was so nice to respond.  I guess I will see what she has to say.  Thanks for the tip.

Welcome to the Texas board and congrats on your surgery! There is alot of priceless info on these boards, I would have been lost without all I learned here.

I live in the Houston area. I'd like to invite you to our support meeting that meets at the Starbucks across from Baybrook Mall in Webster. We meet the 2nd Saturday of every month and always welcome newbies! We've been there, done that and got the SMALLER t-shirt! Please come join us! Feel free to PM me if you need to chat or I'll give you my email and phone number to make it even easier.

Baybrook Mall in Webster. I live in West University Place near the med center. I also have a terrible sense of direction. I might head to Webster and never be found again . But when I get this surgery done Thursday and am able to drive I probably will make the trip. It is on a Saturday so that is good.

I also don't think I know how to PM. So embarrassing! I do know how to PMS though.....I can email and use the phone very well. Am I giving my age away?
[email protected] but I will be out of commission for a few days starting Thursday. Thanks for the response. It is really appreciated.
