Does anyone have a recommendation for a nutritionist in the DFW area? My doctor has zero nutritional support and I need some advice and guidance on over coming a 2 month stall.

Thanks!

How far out are you from your original surgery?   you mention a 2 month stall...>?
  • Pease check out Dr. Connie Stapleton's Website. A lot of good information on there for all WLS patients regardless of the surgery you chose.  Good luck to all and I'm here for you if you want to send me an email.  I'll answer it as soon as possible.

I am almost 8 months out. I have lost 146 pounds but still have about 75-100 to go.

I am eating about 1000 a day. I am having problems with low blood sugar. Everyone says I need to eat more to continue to loose. I am just nervous of overeating. That is why I feel like I need some professional diet guidence. I need someone to tell me how much and what I should be eating at this stage.

The reason I ask is because your profile indicated you were looking into a "revision"  already?   You are only 8 mos out -  your body probably ha**** a stall - which it will -  you may be losing inches.....your body is probably just trying to catch up....

Just change things up a bit.....low blood sugar - probably should be eating a little more....are you excercising...if so -  you definately need to add more calories in there... my nut suggested 1200 cal when I was 6+ out......I had food fear in the first 4 months and wasn't consuming 500 cal a day......yeah - she wasn't happy about that - I too was afraid to eat or drink !!

Up your protein too........there is a board on here too for diet and nutition too at least until you can find a counselor - or nutritionalist.     What insurance plan are you on  - if one?
call them....they should be able to refer you to someone.

I can't believe a Surgeon that does this surgery doesn't have a dietician within his practice or group......Is he setting up his patients for failing?             Here let me cut on  you and then you just fend for yourself.............oops - my bad.......I went vental for a bit !!

I already had the revision. I had a banded gastroplasty when I was 18 (12 years ago). At that time I was too young to realize what I was getting myself into and did not follow the plan. I gained about 50 of the 150 I lost back.

In December 2010 I had an revision to RNY.

My doctors office does have a dietician but honestly I have no desire to go back there. My doctor is great at the surgery but his aftercare sucks. He schedules all of his appointments for the same time each day. Every time I had to go for a follow up I had to wait for HOURS to be seen. Then he would pop in for a few minutes and send me on my way.

He offered no advice on what to eat. His plan was for his patients to eat only soup until they reached their goal weight. That wasn't doable for long. I followed it for awhile but then realized I wasn't happy like that. So yes, he does "technically" have an aftercare program if you want to sit for hours waiting to be seen and told to eat soup to cure your problems. If I could have lived off soup I wouldn't be overweight to begin with.

Having failed before I will not fail again. I have been given a second chance and will not screw this up.

You mentioned 1200 calories when your were 6 months out. How about after that? Does anyone know of a website that tells me the recommended diet per month?

Thanks!!!

Oh  I'm so sorry -     I can't believe in a doc that prefers one to eat nothing but SOUP diet.....that is just sickening !!  Not doable  is right......

as for a "recommended diet per month -  everyone is different. I am NO expert - hopefully someone will chime in here this evening and give some pointers....

There are lots of support out there here in DFW....various groups getting together at different times -  what part of DFW are youin?   I think that there is a  Ft worth gathering this weekend at CM on I-30 & Hulen .....possibly 1 this Sat am - in N Richland HIlls area..off of 820.....
and then last Sat there was a BGB gathering in N. Dallas towards Garland/mesquite area....Ive gone to that one a time and they are just begining and I will go again - just haven't been in the last couple of meetings due to "work".....

Recipe ideas......blogs, etc........google   Eggface   The World According to eggface is the name of the website - she is a long term RNY patient as there are several here   hopefully someone will give you more pointers than I feel "qualified" to do.........being that I"ve had a slight / 40ish lbs gain......but usually most stay on about 1200 calories or so depending on if there is excercise involved or not

Just wanted to chime in...I really enjoyed the book Weight Loss Surgery For Dummies
The back half had food suggestions for different stages after surgery and for different surgery types. Wouldn't hurt to take a glance and see if it has anything you like  :-)

you best bet with a low blood sugar attack is a protein with a fruit or carb

apple & pb
cheese &crackers
cheese or ham and pears

Call your insurance company and ask for a referral or call another bariatric surgeon in the area and lie-tell them you just moved here from out of state and do they have someone they can recommend.  Good luck and I'm proud of you for seeking out professional help.  You might want to keep a food journal of everything you eat between now and then so the nutritionist and look it over and offer suggestions.

Thank you everyone that responded. I spoke to my primary care doctors office and have an appointment to see him Tuesday. In the mean time the nurse is supposed to be getting me a few nutritionist to call.
