The Nicholson Clinic Dr Nick Reviews???

Hi. While I was emailing places in Virginia looking for a surgeon I somehow came across The Nicholson Clinic and Dr Nick. I really would like to stay in state, but he seems to be a lot less than anyone else.

Does anyone have reviews on him and his practice?

I wonder why he is so much less than other surgeons for gastric bypass and I also didnt know if I liked the fact that his website looked like a big advertisement ad. However I live in a small city and this could be the norm and I might just not know it.

Looking forward to hearing reviews and thoughts. Thank you!

Hi I am not one of his patients but I did go to his seminar with one of my friends and I was very impressed with him and his prices.   I know that he works with my bariatric surgeon and he is excellent.   I know of alot of his patients who are extremely pleased with his work and him as a doctor.    I think he would be a good choice for you if you want to come to Texas for surgrery.    My surgeon is also great too and I know that for a fact.    Good luck to you as you decide who to use and where to get it done.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

VSG on 10/05/10 with
Hi,
Dr. Nick is my dr of choice. My husband and I met him on Sept 10th and were very impressed with his sincere concern for what he does for a living.  He's very up front and honest.  His staff is also awesome.  My surgery is 10/5 and I feel that I will be in very good hands. Go to youtube and look at Nicholson Clinic he has several short session on there explaining his cost and what he believes in.

Hi. Can I ask why you chose the VSG? I keep getting confused if people have that in addition to the DS or alone. I am researching other options as well besides gastric bypass and that is why I ask.

He seems to be an amazing man, but its a long trek if I go to him and the price being so much lower than most worried me.

RNY on 12/15/06 with
 I love Dr. Nick.
He was originally the Chief of Bariatrics at Baylor Plano.
I can't comment on his pricing, as mine was mostly covered by insurance.
He's worked on me twice, once for RNY, and took out my Gallbladder 9 months later.
I trust his judgement.

All of his office staff and location has changed since I had surgery, so I don't really know the new folks.

Regardless, I've trusted him with my life twice.
I do find that you may have trouble unless you fly to TX on a regular basis for follow up, just from a geographical concern.

That is also a concern with going out of state, but I am guessing people get follow up care where they live? The surgeon who is closest to me will not do surgery on uninsured people, but I am going to have to check about post op care.

I did not use Dr Nick.  My BFF did though, and I can tell you what a great surgeon he is.  She has had some complications come up since surgery.  Some of them had to do with typical RNY problems, and some had NOTHING to do with the surgery.  Dr Nick has been there for her no matter what time of the day or night.  He gets to her ASAP when she is having any problems, and is very understanding.  I would reccomend him.

You did bring up a very good point.  MAKE SURE to see if a WLS surgeon in your area will follow you if a different surgeon does the surgery.  There are a lot of surgeons that will not see other people's patients.

This is not a problem with all surgeons, as some people even go to Mexico for surgery.  Please make sure that you do research on your doctor before making a decision though because you don't want to go with the first surgeon you find that is affordable.

Good luck in finding someone that you will be happy with.

VSG on 10/05/10 with
I was first looking at RNY but when I really thought about it and started reading more on VSG I decided that I had rather not have the intestines re-routed and have to take more supplements.   I consider myself a volume eater so Dr. Nick also agreeded with me that the VSG was my best choice.  As for follow up appts. I know that Dr. NIck uses a JP Drain until your first post op appt. but since I live over 3 hours away he said that I could have my PCP take the drain out.

I am speaking from experience going through this with my wife having the surgery by Dr. Nicholson.

As far as him as a weight loss surgeon, he is one of the best.  As far as his practice they are not the best and lost me as a potential client.  I can only guess the costs/profits for this surgery, I think a rough guess would be $40K for his practice.  I am going with another office/Dr for my surgery in the next couple of months, here is why:

1.  I was there for her surgery and recovery, his PA assistant dropped in to check on my wife, she was there less than 45-seconds.  We saw no one else from his practice from that point all the way to checkout.

2.  We were given incorrect info as to what our total out of pocket costs would be.

3.  My wife really had no issues after surgery and didn't need any office visits.  We were told up front that ALL return visits would be part of the up front monies we and our insurance company paid.  She recently went back for a follow up because now after her 1st year she has Platoed on her weight loss.  We were charged a $50 office visit.  When I called to inform why we were told they only cover the 1st 90-days post op for follow ups.

I am no rocket scientist but I do understand business and the cost of doing business as well as the VALUE of word of mouth for a business.  Apparently the $50 office visit co-pay and the amount they charged us over what they told us we would have to pay is more valuable to them than profiting from not only my wife's surgery but then mine a year later.  I am sure my weight loss doctor will be very glad to know how he got our new business from the Nicholson clinic.

What was incorrect about your out of pocket costs? Nicholson Clinic is out of network for me. But I was told that after an initial pymt. of  $750 to the hospital, they would take whatever my ins. pd. as pymt. Did you have a similar experience?
