howdy (sugar question)
Hi Juliet,
My doctor told me how much to do in grams newly post op. I really have no idea how much sugar I do in a day. Most of what I eat is sugar free and fat free. I also don't check the natural sugar in fruits. Good luck hopefully someone else will chime in their views. Although with this being the weekend you may have to repost it on monday. Have a great weekend.

I am sad to say there is no real answer to your question. As each indivdual tolerates simple and complex sugars differently. I personally try avoid sugar by concentrateing on eating sugar free and fat free foods, reach requires a lot of label reading. However, I was told post operatively by my surgeon to keep my sugar intake and fat intake to no more that 6 grams to avoid dumping syndrome. I know tomatoe soup contains roughly 25 grams of sugar and I was able to handle it just fine. I have been extremely luck not to ever dumped, but I owe to like I said reading labels, watching the fat and sugar content. You also take into account the actual serving size you are intaking which may be less than what the infromation on the nutrition label says. I have eaten a couple of items who sugar content is 9-12 grams of sugar per a certain serving size but I do not eat the serving size I eat generally half a serving. I believe it is key to try and avoid sugar as much as you can, but you do have to have some fruit in your diet. When I do any baking I use splenda and stevia to sweeten what I am baking. Again each indivdual tolerates things differently and caution should be used when consuming any sugar and fat. However, sugar and fat are only couple of things I watch. I also watch carbs, protein, and calories. Just because somethings says fat free or sugar free is not a sign that we can ear what we want of it. Sugar free and fat free foods tend to a good amount calories and so portion control is extremely important. Best advice keep sugar intake as low as possible.
When I first started out the dr. said don't go over about 9 grams of sugar per serving. I have in general stuck to that rule. I mostly do sf also, but do eat regular desserts on occasion and usually dump on them: nauseous, sweating, super tired feeling.
