A question about the sleeve
A friend of mine had the sleeve done last week. She had complications with seepage and they had to go back in the next day. When I spoke with her this weekend she said she was sorry she had the surgery. I explained to her that is typical, a lot of people have "buyers remorse", but a few months down the line, when the pounds are coming off, she will feel a lot different.
My main question, since I really know little about the sleeve, is how quick is the weight loss? I know with RNY, I lost 150 lbs in six months. I know it is slower with lapband. That is really the extent of my knowledge.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!
George......with the Sleeve you loose weight about the same as with RNY....maybe a little bit slower. As everyone knows....we don't lose weight as quickly as you men do. So if I were her....I wouldn't expect to lose 150 lbs. in 6 months as you did. Tell her we wish her luck.

Trust me George....it is just like the RNY. It all depends on the person just like with the RNY. Some loose the weight fast and others lose slower. I would guess maybe 15 -20 for the first month or so then maybe slower or maybe slower at first. I would say put her goal at 10 a month and if she does more that is great. Good luck to her.

To add to what VP said, some of the factors are M vs. F. (Ms tend to lose faster), age (younger tend to lose faster), the starting weight/BMI (the heavier, the faster loss), etc. I've seen some sleevers lose as much as RNYers in the first few months and others that lost more slowly, like banders. What is her age and starting weight/BMI?
I'm curious as to who her surgeon was .. Leaks from an experienced sleeve surgeon are pretty rare ..

I am looking at getting the sleeve if my insurance will approve it, which I doubt. My surgeon told me it is the middle of the road. IF I worked the tool properly, I could get the same results as RNY but it would take almost a full year like the band. They would want me to have an average loss of only 2-3 lbs a week.
George,
As a sleever, I can tell you that I lost on average of 10-15 lbs a month for the first 4 months, then it slowed to 3-5 lbs. I had lost 100 lbs at my one year anniversary and reached goal shortly after. Since then, I've lost an additional 12 lbs and I'm approaching my 2nd surgiversary in July.
I think a lot depends on starting weight. If she's a "lightweight" (whatEVER that definition is ...) she may lose at a slower pace.
My regret is not having started an exercise program sooner (or really at all). I think I would have reached goal much sooner had I exercised regularly in the beginning instead of waiting until I felt like I "could" after I had dropped some weight. I could have all along, I just didn't.
