Survey....Singles Mixer for WLS Post and Pre Ops
Good afternoon everyone. This past Thursday at my hospital's monthly support group the topic was Dating and Intimacy after WLS. We were split into 2 groups. Those with partners and us singles. On the singles side of it there were only 8 people of the 50 total. We talked very little as I don't think any of us were comfortable with being singled out (no pun intended). Then someone came up with a question asking if there are any groups in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area exclusivly for singles. The BC said that she didn't know and asked me since I am active in many support groups in the area. Now I didn't know of any and said that I would find out about it.
Then the BC said that if there wasn't that maybe our bariatrac program could sponsor a singles mixer for Post and Pre Op WLS patients for all of the DFW Metroplex. Now I for one am not real sure I am ready for this kind of idea but I thought I would throw some questions out there to the great OH forums today to see what their opinion of the idea would be...
Would you be interested in a Singles Mixer for Post and Pre Op WLS patients if it was offered in your area?
What kind of format do you think it should be...speed dating, just mingle with finger foods at a local hospital, or a dinner setting for the group?
Would you have been more likely to do this right after surgery or after a period of weight loss?
After what amount of time after WLS would you think this was a bad idea?
Any answers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I don't know where to start the idea or even if the idea should be started. While I'm not the bariatric coordinator at my hospital, I do volunteer at the hospital and could help her if I could figure out how to get started.

Chris,
I like the idea! Can see a couple of "kickers" in the mix though as well. One is ratio between WLS men and women. Let's face it you ladies have us out numbered by at least 8 to 1! Secondly, will be a lack of dating experience by the participants. Like the idea of finger food mixer. Be great if it was on a weekend when Norma would be here.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!
So very true with the ratio of US guys. Unfortunatly there are too few guys either getting the surgery or going to support groups after the surgery. Something big to think about. The lack of dating experience might be not a bad thing since a lot will be in that situation (including me). At least with the finger food mixer you wouldn't need the stress of the 'dating' thing and can meet new friends at the same time.
