feeling unsettled from meeting with nut - long
I have been quite excited over going to see the nut that speicilzes in WLS peeps - I have had no wls follow up in 3 1/2 yrs other than me asking my docs to run labs(thank you Dana and others who have helped me know WHAT to ask for), hounding them for results and doing my own resarch.
I met with a different nut as mine was out sick - I left feeling unsettled - she disagrees with some of my lifestlye choices and I thought that was it
I realized late last night after tossing and turning thinking about it - she gave me GREAT ADVISE FOR A NORMAL PERSON! Newsflash I had my guts rearanged and even though I eat huge amounts by comparission to a lot of wls peeps I eat less than half of what most normal people eat - I do shakes 2-3 times a day, vits out the ying yang, protien protien protien to STAY healthy
She had problems with the following
I eat veggies AFTER meat at dinner
during the day I grab deli meat, cheese and a few crackers and call it a meal
shrimp ****tial IS a complete meal for me
I don't eat fresh fruit very often (blueberrys and granny smith apples are what I do best with so that is what I eat)
I don't eat a "whole serving" of yogurt - 1 cup of yogurt has 2-4 times the grams of sugar I tolorate
I don't drink milk - it makes me dump
I don't eat a "whole serving " of cottage cheese either
and I DO eat cheese - some lowfat but some regular FULL FAT
she also stated since you have no problem with vomiting - I said no, just a few times a week - she did a double take and wanted a list of what made me sick and then WHY would I ever eat something off that list - EXCUSE ME I AM ADDICTED TO FOOD LADY I didn't hit 425 b/c I didn't like to eat, I know what makes me sick about 80% of the time - sometimes it is just totally random - and if I know it will make me sick I try to either avoid it or eat it at home - sad but true - I still stress eat - the difference being I stress eat a fried chicken LEG not a bucket, a slice of pizza not a whole large one, half a lowfat lowsugar cake in a cup not half a 3 layer full fat full sugar extra frosting chocolate cake - I KNOW that these things aren't good for me but stress eating has been with me pushing 40 yrs and I live a stressful life so when I control my eating 80-90% of the time and even my "binges" are controled I am ok with it -
she also didn't get that I CAN NOT make bread a main part of my meal - nor torillas, rice or pasta - just doesn't work - pasta and rice are great sides, AFTER my meat or at least in smaller portions than my meat - and oh yes I EAT RED MEAT
She asked why I was there since I had lost and maintianed my loss, my labs were good and I was able to eat - I told her I had due to moves and insurance not seen anyone that specialized in wls since about 6 months out I wanted some reasurance I was doing right and some feedback from the medical community
WTH was I thinking??
I know what works - I will keep doing what works and she can keep her pretty pictures of plates FULL of food with 5-6 oz potions of protien PLUS 3 cups of veggies and a starch

Sounds like the NUT doesn't know what the hell she's talking about, frankly.
Just because someone has a bunch of letters after their name on stationery does not mean they know how to apply it to someone like you.
Do what you're doing, as it works for you.
PS. you're also taking it too personally.

how many times have i posted, this is what works FOR ME and MY BODY!. My surgeon would rather we got our protein from food and not from shakes. Well i tried that, and my protein levels (aong with several others) totally TANKED and i do mean TANKED!!!! So, FOR ME, i HAVE to drink 2 shakes a day (be it protein coffee, shake etc) or i cant keep my levels up and my body rebels. I also have to take 4 times the amount of calcium and B vits as everyone else, thats just my weird ass body. Do what works for you. Its just like everything else with this surgery take what you need from it.

It sounds like she is not a good doctor at all. It was my psychiatrist that covenvienced me that I should look into weight loss surgery. It sounds like the doctor just does not understand everyone is different when it comes to weight issues. People who have an addiction whether it is food, alcohol, or drugs it is a lifetime struggle and will always need support. I find her questioning you the way she did strange. As I have never had a doctor speak the way she did to you. It is good you control your binges. I know some peolpe find it is strange what I can eat and not eat also. I also avoid things that do not agree with me so I do not understand why she would find that strange. Even my nutritionist agrees that I should avoid the things I can not handle and try them a again in a couple of months. Hopefully you see the doctor you were suppose to see and he can help you out more.
