Hello all,
I am now more confused than ever. I am doing all my preop stuff- nut, psych, blood work are all done. EGD is the following Thurs. I will get the letter from my PCP next Monday. I have been "preapproved" by my insurance for RNY. Lap-band wont get me down to even striking distance of goal. The NUT already has me on a Vit. schedule based on my not so good numbers from my blood work. I was sent directions for vits and a script for Vit D.

Here is the problem:

The vitamins issue started my husband questioning whether I should have surgery. He wants me to do what I need and what is best for me. He really doesnt want me to have any complications that will restrict what we do. He does want me to lose some weight and get healthy. His concern is since my vits were so off will that be enough with exercise to lose the weight.

I am concerned that if I dont do it now the next round of insurance negotiations will cut out the bariatric coverage. (THANKS Obama!)

Thanks for letting me VENT.

Sorry but no the vitamins and exercise alone will not make you lose the weight.    Tell your husband to NOT get upset about this until he needs to.    They are trying to get your vitamin levels up to where they should be before you have your surgery so  you will start out with everything as it should be that is all.    You want to be as good as you can be at the time of surgery.   You wouldn't want to start out with you vitamin levels off.    Just do as your doctors say....you will be fine !!!  Good luck to you.

Thanks, I needed to hear that. I am sure WLS is the tool that will help me achieve my goal. I begin to question myself.

To be honest.....alot question their decision to have surgery especially when they get approved and a date.     it is scarey to have a surgery and to think that you will never be able to eat or enjoy your food again..but that is NOT true at all.   You can may not be able to eat everything you ate before WLS....but trust me....you will find foods that are healthier and much better for you that you will enjoy just as much.   Come to us if you need questions answered.    We will do all we can to set your mind at ease that you are making the right decision by having your WLS.   Good luck to you.

I can only repeat what Vivian has said. Taking vitamins now and starting an exercise regime will only help you at the time of surgery. Your body will have good vitamin level to draw from and your body will be in better shape, both excellent advantages for better healing.

If I had a dollar for every theory I had on why I couldn't lose weight I could retire right now!

I considered WLS for 5 years before I finally decided it was the only thing that would work.  I always took a lot of vitamins (my Mom was a health food nut back in the 70's before it became popular and I used to bake our own whole wheat bread when I was a kid).  I thought maybe a vitamin deficiency was it - nope.  Then maybe my sleep apnea was it - got a CPAP and felt better, but still fat.  I exercised my tail off  - nope.  None of it hurt me and the exercise paid off in that I think it is the reason I don't have a lot of sagging skin.  But I was still fat.  I did Weigh****chers, Atkins, ate half what my skinny husband ate and exercised twice as much and was still fat.

I had RNY and I bounce between 145-147 and I am thrilled beyond words.  It is the only thing that has worked for me.  And I intend to work very hard to keep it off because it is not magic.

Your feelings are perfectly normal.  My fear was that I was basically healthy before surgery and I was afraid i was going to screw up my health or end up with a worse problem than obesity.  So far I am fine except for a few low blood sugar episodes.

Good luck!

Thank-you ladies! I just need to stay committed. Y'all are right if I could have lost it and kept it off I would have done it with one of the hundreds of diets/programs that I have tried.

I did the Phen-Phen thing when it was popular. But, two weeks after I started it was pulled for the health issues and the organ failures. I have done my research on this and there is long term data on the WLS to back it up.
