Is it Mardi Gras time for me?

I finally got my surgery date set last Thursday! So for the next 10 days I get to eat real food and then I have 2 weeks of awful Bariatric Advantage protein and then surgery. I feel like I'm having my very own personal version of Mardi Gras! I'm making a mental list of things to eat "one last time"...is this normal?  Will I ever be able to eat a nice filet mignon after surgery ? ( I know not "right after" surgery) but ever have it again a year later?  I had my steak last night and enjoyed every bite!

Does everyone have a "goodbye" experience with certain foods?
Cheers, Tee

Most foods you do not need to say good bye to just the quantities you eat them! Remeber this is not a diet you are going on but a change of life. The only foods I cannot eat are sugar, pasta, and dry food. There are so many great sugar free options I get my sweet treat fix easily and the pasta is no big deal. I have learned from the peeps here healthy, really tasty alternative ways to make my favorite dishes.
Don't say goodbye to food say hello to new you!!!

Congrats!   and YES you will be able to have filet mignon after surgery....I started eating it again at 7 weeks out.

I did not have enough warning to say "goodbye" to fave foods, my doc called on Monday, preop diet started on Tues, and surgery was on Friday. I really don't have adesire for any bad foods.  In fact I tatsted a few things because they were faves and was disappointed....they no longer are nearly as good as I remembered so I don't have a desire for them anymore.

Yes, yes, yes...we all went thru the "last supper" thing.  I had numerous "last suppers".  I am one of the lucky ones-there's NOTHING I can't eat except for milk in large quantities.  But not everyone is so lucky.  A lot of people can't tolerate certain meats or pasta or bread but like Meggie says, you can usually find a way around things.  Last night I ate brisket, potato salad, coleslaw and the best strawberry shortcake ever.  Now mind you, I didn't eat a lot of it-but there was nothing I couldn't eat. (I'm also at goal so keep in mind my choices weren't the best if you're losing weight).

Steak is one of my favorite foods and I have absolutely no problems eating it.  The good news is, immedately post-op you're not hungry so you really don't miss foods.  The hard part starts at 2 years out when your straving all the time, can eat anything but are forced to make good decisions.  So the more lifestyle changes you make at the beginning the better.

Lots of people have the goodbye experience, I had to eat lean meat and green leafy veggies only for the month before my surgery.  I was cash pay so it went pretty quick and my surgeon required the liver to shrink and that I lose 10 lbs before surgery.

I don't have trouble with many foods, beef roast gets me some times and eggs a lot of times cause me trouble.  Milk is another issue but I can have other dairy products with no problem.

You'll definitely get to eat your filet again, just not as much.

Good luck, your journey is about to start and be very exciting.

My "last supper" was a chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy and I savored every bite!

I actually did the restaurant tour thing and had all my favorites a few weeks before.  Then I buckled down and was perfect on my 2-week liquid diet.

I am 21 months out and I can eat just about anything - including chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes LOL.  Except it is a few bites and not a whole platter, which is a GOOD thing!

As for steak - Friday night is our "steak night" when hubbie grills one at home and I eat it every week and have since I was early out (after progressing to real foods).  Now instead of a few small bites I can eat about 3 oz and the dense protein fills me up and stays with me.

Everyone is different and some things you can't eat early on you will be able to eat later.  My tolerance for sugar and fats is better now so I can eat bacon and peanut butter, whereas early on bacon made me queasy and I flat out dumped on peanut butter.

Like Sarah and Steph....I can eat most anything. But be forewarned, you may find all those old favorites don't taste so good later on. Chicken fried steak and all the fixins was also my last supper! But I had already been on a supervised diet for almost 6 months and even by then my tastes had changed. That CFS didn't taste nearly as good as I thought it would! It doesn't have anything to do with my tastes changing...that never happened, I still like and dislike all the same thing. But after spending so long off greasy fats most of the time all I can taste is the grease. It's enough to turn off my appetite! Steak is an exception and still tastes so good, I just eat only 2-3 oz now. Oh, and my little belly doesn't tolerate leftover meat, too dry after it's been reheated so I snitch a small piece of Beasts steak and we're both happy!

So although I CAN eat all that favorite stuff, I'm slowly finding I really don't care about most of them now.
