Almost at goal, wierd comments and how to respond question?!?

I am almost at my personal goal of 135.  Most people tell me I look great and, believe me, I DO!  I am now starting to get the question, "How will you stop losing weight?"  I know that my body will naturally stop losing on its own, but when I say that, they look at me like I am speaking German.  I mean really, do they think that every one that RNY just keeps losing until they waste away and die?? What can I say to make these well-meaning friends understand that I am OK and will not waste away?

Also, my brother thinks I need to be around 120.  NO WAY!  I can see my ribs now.  There is no way I want to be 120.  I just smile at him and nod.

Congrats on your fantastic success!!! I think you and your body know what is comfortable and good for you! If you don't wanna be 120, then definitely don't go there!!

Tell the "well-meaning" friends and family that you'll use your special shut-off key that you bought in the plumbing section at Lowes and turn it off like you do the gas in the fireplace.

Or, tell them you'll go back and have everything sewn back to original because original worked so well for all of us in the first place.

Can you tell I'm tired of "well-meaning" people????  LOL!

Tell them your body has already slowed down and since you're NOT dieting and are just LIVING your CHANGED lifestyle, you will automatically taper off in your WL naturally.

Tell your brother on a regular basis that "he looks fat in that" and maybe he'll shut the heck up too.

Arrrghhhh I hate busy bodies!!!!  "Can you eat that?  Are you stuck already?  You're just wasting away now!"  STFU!!!  Maybe if we countered with "Are you still THAT stupid?"  "When are you going to know when you're not ugly anymore?"  "Should YOU eat that?"  they'd shut up!

Kris M.   Ignorance is bliss...but not when you're aware of it!!

I agree....we need to start answering Rudeness with Rudeness.  I've tried being nice, being diplomatic...after all Mother taught me to be nice and consider others feelings. But when do we get that same consideration?!?! Maybe our responses should be.....

"Is that ALL you're going to eat?" = "Are you going to eat ALL that?"
"You're starting to look so skinny and sickly" = "You're still looking overweight, is your face always that red?"
"Should you be eating that?" = "WHY are you eating that?"
"How much have you lost now?" or "How much do you weigh now?" = "Have you lost any weight yet?" or the same "How much do YOU weigh now?"

Sheesh! It's easier to take from friends you know mean well but still, there are some basic rules of courtesy that should never be crossed with anyone!

If I don't want to answer a question, I either smile and say nothing or if it is how much have you lost? I say "a lot" and drop it.  Or answer their question with a question.  "Should you be eating that?"  I might be in the mood to say "why not?"

"You're starting to look so skinny and sickly" = "looks are deceiving - I feel GREAT".  And then brag about something you can do now that you couldn't do before - that usually shuts up the jealousy.

"Is that ALL you're going to eat?" = "Yes, I LOVE being able to control my portions now" which is a back-handed slap if they are overweight.

You two crack me up!  I do tell my real friends that my body has started tapering off and will eventually stop where it wants to.  Most understand, but a few are clueless!

My brother is a well-meaning idiot whose wife is 4'0" (not quite) and weighs about 30 pounds (really about 115).  She is very thin and she is a lot shorter than I am, so there is no way I want to get that small.

Congratulations Julie.  Your body will definitely stop when it's ready.  At my 9 month post-op visit I had hit my goal weight.  My surgeon told me I'd lose about 10 lbs and stop and would probably see a small bounce back fairly quickly.  He hit is square on the head, I lost EXACTLY 10 more lbs and within 3 1/2 months had gained 5 of that back.  Now if I could get back there I'd be a happy camper, LOL.

You've done amazingly well.
