Been a member 7 years...starting over again

Hello Folks!!  Just a brief posting.  I've been a member of OH for 7 years now. Had surgery 6 years ago...and I'm back for support.

I did really good on following the rules for the first couple of years.  However, i know how to bend them, and bend them I do.

Going into surgery I was 270.  Lowest weight was 155 (looked sick!) Highest weight since surgery 195.  Currently, 188.  My weight that I look good at is about 175.  That is a good weight for me and my build.

But like I said, I'm here because I break the rules all the time and I'm trying to get back to basics to not only help me, but help my daughter.  She is only 10 and over the last 5 years, she has gained ALOT of weight.  And mainly it is my fault.  because I couldn't eat so much at a time, it was simplier to just grab her something while I wasn't hungry.  Well needless to say, between that and the stress that she has gone through with my problems after surgery, ( I managed to trade food for alcohol....not good. but 230 days sober) she has gained an extra 50 pounds.

I am doing this for her as well as me.  I want to be able to show her how to eat healthy and right.  the problem is...I've been out of the basics for so long...I have forgotten how to do it.

So I figured I would come back to the one place that I knew I could get help and support.

So thanks for reading and I'll be hanging around here for a good while.

It is great you are reaching out! Congratulations on 230 days, that is a great accomplishment!

Protein first, the veg and fruit then carbs, stay away from carbonationalcohol and minimise sugar. No water 30 min before or after eating. Caffeine can dehydrate you so limit it as well as get in 70-100 oz of fluid a day. Need to tighten the pouch try the 5 day pouch test. Some believe it helps some dont but it does help de carb your system.

Hang in here and we will help all we can!

these are the rules as I know them. I am not a Doc or a nurse. But they have helped me.

It is for people that are at least 1 year out. It takes you back to just liquid and reintroduces foods slowly. Helps decarb your system, makes you think about protein first and tightens your pouch. Find it at 5 day pouch test .com. Some people think it is bogus others swear by it!

Welcome back!

I wasn't around when you were here before but I am looking forward to getting to know you.

If you are only 13 pounds above your desired weight after 6 years then you have done great with your surgery and you should be able to get back on track quickly.

Thanks for the warm welcomes.

Yes that is the hard part...not eathing and drinking.  I have gotten away with that for so long, it's become nature now to do it.  I know that if I don't eat for a while...like if I get sick, then my pouch does shrink.  usually if I lose weight when I'm sick, it takes quite a few months for the weight to creep back up because I can't get that much in.  My problem...I'm a grazer.

And yes Sarah, it's not that bad...but I'm unhappy with it.  I yo-yo back and for with these 15-20 all the time for the last 4 years.  The problem that I hate, is when I lose it...it all looks fabulous.  When I gain it... LORD only knows where it's going to go this time.  Sometimes it just the boobs.  The hips and belly  look great.  Then it's the hips...but thebelly still flat.  This time...it's in both my hips and belly!  LOL  It's killing me.  It's a guessing game whenever I gain.

Welcome Back...You should lose weight now that you're sober.  You probably replaced the eating addiction with an alcohol addiction.
Please be happy that you still look good. Remember what you used to look like.

Maybe your daughter would benefit from Al Anon.

The grazing can be a killer because most grazing snacks are carbs.

Yeah, that's weird how the fat is stored and lost in different places.  I noticed it when I was losing and it didn't come off evenly.  I haven't lost an ounce in 5 months and some of my friends swear I have but it is just being redistributed - even after 18 months.

Do you drink protein shakes?  They don't stay with me like they did when I was early out, but they do curb the hunger and keep me from carb-snacking.

Fage yogurt with SF syrups, cheese sticks, cottage cheese, protein shakes, tuna salad, whole grain crackers - these are my mainstays.  If I really want to keep my pouch full then chicken breast will do it every time!

Those are great ideas! Grazing is dangerous. I do it but it is to keep weight on. I am trying to be careful that they are healthy things I graze on. Plus quick and easy to eat. Cut up fruit, cheese, peeled celery, baby carrots (I stay away from raw broccoli, I fart enough as it is!) and hard boiled eggs. If the protein drinks go right through and don't fill you up try Steph's system. She freezes them and eats them like ice cream!

When my weight comes back on it is just in the belly!! Hell, costipation makes me look pregnant! Just remember, lycra can fix most anything!!!
