Disintegration of the TX OH board
Hello...it is the TEXAS OH Board. If I wanted a cross-section of people from various states I'd be on the MAIN board.
Please Texans...let's be kinder to each other or more people will be dropping like flies. I have support many other places than the OH board. I stay there to try to help newbies and others out and to help people be accountable. I've noticed people who are saying they are grateful for things post right in the middle of being "grateful" that they are others who need it and won't post and their not kind. There's not even a need to do that. Post what you want, but don't drag others into your posts. If you don't like what others say or how they feel, leave it alone.
Someone just asked a question today about various tupes of surgery and it ended up being a free-for-all. Surgeons can give you good advice whether some people think they can or not. They have gone to many years of medical school to be trained and most take what they do seriously. I think all the different types of surgeries are helpful depending on what someone's individual needs are. There seems to be a tremendous amount of RNY bashing going on on all boards. Many of us have chosen that or did it because our surgeons recommended it for one reason or another. I'm good with my RNY...it's what I had. Paige is good with her lapband...it's what she had. Other's are good with their DS's or sleeves. They're ALL good surgeries folks. I never try to talk anyone in to one particular type of surgery. That's what drs are for.
Please be kind to each other fellow Texans.

When I started on the TMB back in 2006, there were PAGES of posts everyday~the majority of which had to do with WLS. Now there are only a handful each day. Most posts are prayer requests, announcements of meetings or gatherings, updates on sick people, the TRAIN (social site) and an occasional post from a newbie with a question.
The only REGULAR WLS threads are your accountability thread and Mari's monday morning weigh in. When a newbie does post, they often don't get but one or two responses. It is definately a sad turn of events for what used to be the BEST State board on OH.
Personally, all the whining and complaining over personal issues has sucked the life out of me and for that reason I have spent less and less time here. I keep praying that those who are a year or two out will revive the board but I fear that's not going to happen.

Karla,
I was just going to post and ask if it was a full moon or something.. It's like coming out of the woodwork. NON WLSers, NON TMBers, all just stirring stuff.
I am going to defend my fellow TMBers as well as try to keep newbies from being INUNDATED with needless negative information. And for that I am bashed. How unfortunate.
You newbies - this was the most awesome place when I was a newbie. There was support and caring and no sales pitches or fake profiles.
Maybe it can get back to the way it should be, but I dont know.
I have removed my posts as they are useless. I will make an effort to only post positives but that might leave me nothing to reply about.

forgiveness is giving up the hope that the past could be any different
BECK-the only way I know to "help" the newbies is to TRY to responnd to each of their posts-we can at least take turns, as I know we all have "lives" and don't live in front of our computer screens, just waiting for someone to post a question/concern. I felt really good about the way we reached out to the new redheaded Gina from New Orleans-she stuck her neck out to reach out and nobody tried to snap it off-made me proud of our TMBers.
It doesn't have to be "as it was"...people change...thank goodness...but we can sure make it better than it has been lately!
Time for YOU to show newbies some before and after pics-talk about INSPIRATION...just sayin!!

We Can Do Hard Things
I feel blessed to have been a member of TMB for almost 2 years now... I have a chosen circle of friends that I would have never known had it not been for this board!! It is unfortunate that many of us have turned to other places outside of OH to get what has been missing from here for far too long.
WLS is a personal choice... it is not a one size fits all!!! We have to find a surgeon and WLS that is the right fit for us as an individual. I admit I did not like what happened here on TMB tonight.... it was like vultures were circling fresh meat.... if it had just been TMB'ers that would be one thing... but it's like the call or radar signals went out and in they came.
Support the newbies coming in asking questions... provide them with links where they can go to do more research... and answer the questions you can. That is why we have surgery forums to assist people looking into surgery and to provide support that is surgery specific. However, sometimes good intentions have a way of back fireing.... bombarding someone is only going to make them feel more overwhelmed then they already do. Instead show them where they can go to find out more information... but don't call in the troops.
It's late and I'm tired.... goodnight.

I agree, TMB isn't what it used to be. One reason I felt so well prepared for the surgery was because of all the vets here who gracious spent their time answering my questions. I'm guilty of not posting as much as I used to but I have a good reason.....I'm finally healthy enough to be out living a life instead of parked in front of the computermost of the time. So it's a catch 22.....feeling great and out doing stuff but feeling guilty for not being here to pay it forward as much as I'd like.
Gina, you are right the TRAIN is not what it use to be, where's our Bubba. I started the Train and handed it over to David, he was such an amazing Conductor.
I don't get it the surgery slamming, I think ALL surgeries have their benefits. I DO understand the DSers trying to get their surgery out, it still after 4 years of me being here isn't offered to many people by many surgeons because of the time to learn to do it. If each of us doesn't become defensive about the surgery types then the boohaha won't commence.
