OT: Good news - Eric & Mom update

Finally got the pathology report back from Eric's RPLND and they all came back teratoma! If there was any evidence of a mixed germ cell in the lymph nodes, he would have needed at least two more rounds of inpatient high dose chemo. If you remember, teratoma's can only be excised (chemo and/or radiation does nothing to them) so what has been cut out is GONE. Yahoo! As of right now, half of his medical team is pulling for no more chemo. We'll see what his oncologist says. I'm thinking he's done. And if the oncologist says "lets just see if one more does the trick..." we've decided to wait until at least July to make a decision and base it off the next CT scan and tumor markers. Nobody in this house is ready for more chemo right now. Not that we'd be any closer in July, but at least we have a couple more months to live in blissful ignorance of reality if more is absolutely necessary.

As to my mom, she didn't have a stroke! Now, don't get me started on why they're not checking further into whatever happened inside her brain (umm hello - you saw something in there, correct? WTH?) but it turns out her kidneys and liver weren't performing because of an infection caused by her diabetes. So all of her medications were building up in her body and causing some serious issues. She had a blood transfusion last night (2 units) and looked much better today. She was supposed to go home tonight but they have to keep her a couple more days to make sure the IV antibiotics do the trick to treat the infection. All in all, I'm just so happy she didn't have a stroke. The poor woman has enough health issues on her plate to add that into the mix.

Jenny I am so happy to hear this news.  I know you have been praying hard and holding on to hope that there would only be teratoma's left.  Praise God!!  I'll put my vote in for no more chemo too, for as much as that counts.  Enjoy today, and tomorrow and the next day.  You and your family more than deserve to enjoy life and to be able to take a breath and not have to worry right now.

Glad to hear your mom is doing better also, but yeah WTH about not checking the brain thing more??
