Is a Carb Coma a form of dumping?
I've been so careful watching out for sugars and sugar alcohols that will trigger dumping. I've slipped up or haven't read labels correctly a few times and I'm beginning to think I don't dump on sugar, although I haven't actually tested it.
But yesterday was a 'hinky' food day. Minimal breakfast, just my protein tea, chicken salad with 2 flatbread crackers for lunch and a whole grapefruit for a snack. So already significant carbs on board. For supper I made a batch of Eggface's Ham and Cheese Bites. I've been looking forward to those. I ate one and it felt like a rock. I don't know whay I didn't stop to think that my little belly does NOT like scrambled eggs, and that's basically all these bites are with other stuff added.
A couple hours later I was getting hungry but didn't really want anything heavy so I resorted to an old habit and had a bowl of Go Lean cereal! The Hood Carb Countdown milk had very few carbs but AFTER I ate it I looked and the Go Lean had 35 carbs! Within minutes the carb coma hit, I could hardly keep my eyes open. It was a feeling like being drugged or even drunk. I hate that feeling! I ended up going to bed several hours ahead of schedule and even today I feel a litlle 'hungover'.

Never heard of Carb Coma, but after hearing your description, I'm sure I've been in one before!! LOL I love the word "hinky" thanks to A.P.P.S. on NCIS!
As far as dumping goes, myself, I will dump on greasy foods faster than sugar. I actually ate a piece of cake yesterday and got right to the edge of dumping but it didn't hit me full force! Of course I am nearly 5 years out and I am glad I still dump at all!! Now if I could figure out that "getting hung" prolly means sit the damn fork down, you;re full, I would be in WLS heaven!

I consider it a form of dumping and I believe it is from a blood sugar crash. I had it happen to me a few times the first year and I HAD to go lay down - couldn't keep my eyes open.
Not so bad now, although I am careful with sugar because even though I don't crash like I used to I still feel yucky if I eat too much.
I am still leery of scrambled eggs - they sit in my pouch like a rock too. I always order my eggs over easy if I am in a restaurant having breakfast - they slide right down!

Mari, I was over 2 yrs out before I could eat fruit and now I love it ! Didn't eat much of it growing up except canned pears and fuit ****tail or Ambrosia or 5cup salad (loaded w/fat and sugar)! I am careful not to over do but it settles much better and only really the fresh stuff. Dried fruit is problamatic and always a rick because even though they are "natural: sugar they are concentrated!! Do you eat fresh grapefruit or the single serve prepack wedges? Check the label on thos, I couldn't eat them either and I thought they were just fruit and the one I bout had added fructose!!!

Oh, quick note on hidden sugar. Last fall my sweet grands wanted to make a dessert that I could eat too so they made a humongous fruit cobbler and only used 1/2c sugar in the whole thing. it looked fab so I had just a little and it was delish. ten min later i am violently sick for an hour and in bed for 3, count them, 3 days on just liquids!!! Come to find out they did not use fresh fruit...it was several fully loaded CANS of fruit with heavy syrup!! they didn't realise it had all that add corn syrup!!! I now ask exactly what is in something if I don't know!! I was so mad Ken told them what happened, I guess they did need to know, but they felt sooooo bad!!!

My doctor and I consider it a form of dumping. Carbs are sugars and sugars can make us dump. I eat very few fruits, have to watch my milk intake (carbs there, too) and never any white bread type products. If I eat cereal it is Kays Naturals protein cereal. I order online and it comes in 3 great falvors. My fave is cinnamon.

That's sort of the way my thoughts were going, too. It's a good thing, at least for now. I had that drugged feeling so it'll really make me watch the carbs even more than usual. And here I thought I was getting over my carb-o-phobia!!!
I really do enjoy a bowl of cereal every now and then. I totally forgot about Kays Naturals! I had a couple of samples and really liked them both. I think I'll add some to my next Netrition order.
Thanks for the reminder!
