What Sarah said.........

LOL - that girl has pretty much hit it straight on the head.  She and I had surgery the same day, she with Garth and me with Robert Davis.  We didn't get the after-care that you would think we would get.  Doesn't happen.  You have to learn to be accountable yourself.  If it takes writing down everything you put in your mouth, so be it!  That's what you do. Do it on the computer or the old fashioned way...pencil and notebook. If it takes finding a support group or just an informal group of WLS pts in your area (and Austin doesn't have many, I know), then do so. If there isn't one?  See about starting one up.  BE PROACTIVE!!!!! If you know what sets you off, that's part of (maybe even half) the battle.

Never eating carbs or sugars again......can't see that happening. I only dump on rare occasions, never know when it's going to hit me or how bad it'll be, much less what's going to set me off.  So I try to keep it to a dull roar, cuz I hate to embarrass myself in public.  I've 2 or 3 french fries set me off and another time, I've eaten 4 or 5 with no after effect, so who knows with me.

I'm struggling with some pretty ugly eating issues right now myself.  What keeps me from going over the edge??  The TMB and the HAG.  I jump on that witch every morning and record the numbers on a calendar in the bathroom.  Obsessive?  I don't think so, it keeps me accountable. You do whatever it takes, and that works for me.

So don't panic, freak out or head for the ice cream.  Sit down and come up with a plan, put it in place and practice using it. Change one little tiny thing and when you've got that down, work on the next one. Get back to basics! Rome wasn't built in a day, we didn't get fat in a day and it'll take the rest of our lives to stay healthy, happier and skinnier.

Hang in there and when you get frustrated, come back! Someone is always here that will listen, offer advice and try to help if we can.

Hugs, Mari

Awwww Dee ur such a sweetie!  Love your Avie and the quilt!!!!  Is it a French Braid??  Hard to tell with the pic so small.  Can't wait to see you again, even tho I may have to wait til Conf in Nov.  I can't believe how much you have changed since Sept.  Yea, I know that was right after surg, but man, the difference is amazing!

Hugs, Mari

Aw...thanks! The daily changes are still amazing to me, too! So hard to comprehend sometimes.

That quilt is just a braid, the French braid has the squares at the intersections and usually done in gradated colors or shades. I was too lazy to do one of those!   That makes 3 tops now that need quilting. Do you hand quilt or machine? Yourself or send it out? Beast is trying to convince me to get a longarm but 1) $$$$ 2) where in the world would I put it?!?!

Can't do the hand stuff since I had carpal tunnel repair 10 yrs ago or so, but truthfully???  I'm too lazy to hand quilt.  I usually send my stuff out to a longarmer. I'm trying to talk my sister into buying one, but she's the same way...Where would I put it????

I hear ya! I really do miss hand quilting, though. It was my way to relax after a hard day. But between my eyes getting old and either corpal tunnel or arthritis in my right hand, it's just too hard to do anymore. Luckily I have a couple of friends with longarms that need tops for practice....I have plenty of tops over the last 30 years...I never could quilt as fast as I pieced! LOL!

Thank you Mari. I try to be proactive. I really do. In my own way. Things are crazy for me being that my husband and I just moved (again) thanks to the military, he deployed (AGAIN), and I am here in a new town, 22 miles from civilization (and we really do not have many resources on post, nobody has a clue about RNY or how to handle my needs, my doctor is over 20 miles away and the are the closest to me that I could find) and I have a special needs child at home while going to school full time. I tried to stay focused on keeping an online journal, but I simply would forget. I always go back to it once every month or so when I feel like I need to keep track, and I am good for about 2 weeks then things get crazy and I lose track all over again. I was keeping track on the dailyplate.com. So now I keep a mental note on a day to day basis. That is the easiest way for me.
I knew that I would eventually come to this point and I was not naive about that aspect, it was more the fact of how to handle it and I didn't think it would creep up on me so fast. I thought it would be a transition, not that I woke up one day and realized I could eat sugar again or that my period would have any affect on it like it does.
LOL... I didn't head for the ice cream yet. I cannot do dairy since surgery. Okay, let me rephrase, I can't do milk or most milk products. I am okay with cheeses and eggs as long as they are really scrambled well.
When I say I eat every hour, this is an example of what I had today:

Breakfast: Protein shake

Hour 1/2 later: 3/4 hard boiled egg

Lunch: 4/5 slices of thinly sliced turkey breast and 1 slice of american cheese

snack: 1 cheese stick, 3 slices of turkey breast

and lots of water in between..... and all that is between the hours of 7 and 2.

You have a lot going on in your life right now with the move, the deployment all on top of your PMDD.  Is there a support group.  Not WLS, but military.  What about therapy?  I know you're worried about the safety net of the dumping, but you're dealing with stress eating.  Therapy really helped me with that.

Thanks! I have not thought about it. I honestly have too much going on to try to find a sitter for the kids and drive 20/30 miles somewhere and go have therapy. I am just too busy. I always have something going on. I usually just turn to other wives for a mental break when I need it.
