worried - waiting on test results
Dr. Stewart did my EGD last Friday. I was told the results would be in by Tuesday.
He sent me home with an RX for Nexium - but no antibiotics, so assumed there was not an ulcer.
Pathology report is supposed to be in his office by tomorrow (what Leah just said via phone call).
OK - the word "pathology" is kinda giving me the heeby-jeebies. Not liking the sound of it at all.
Please pray, swing critters, whatever that there isn't anything serious like cancer going on.
Just a little worried.....and would appreciate some words of wisdom and comfort. :-)
Is it standard to HAVE a pathology report with an EGD?? Maybe I'm way out of line.
The fact the they won't move forward in anyway - like setting a surgery date - until Dr. Stewart gets the pathology report is unsettling to me.
Thanks for listening to me whine.

I used to work in the GI lab helping with EGD's. "Pathology" is just another word for "biopsy results" and yes it is usually standard to have this done when you have an EGD. If they see anything that looks in any way not normal they will biopsy it. Most likely, in your case, they are waiting on the biopsy results to see if you have helicobacter pylori (google it). This would need to be treated prior to having surgery. Noting to worry about, by the way. Just routine screening. Scary things like cancer are seen at the time of an EGD so you would already know if he saw something like that and would just be waiting on biopsy results to find out what kind of cancer. I'm sure you will be fine!
Whew!! Thank you, Kathy!!
He was worried about a possible ulcer - so what you say makes perfect sense!!
I can let out my breath now. :-)
Thanks again for the "inside info"!
