So I am soo excited to get a job at The methodist Hospital in houston. Not only because it covers wls but I hear its one of the best places to work and they offered  me pretty much everyting I asked for. Well I was going through my benefit information because they have day one insurance coverage I get to the part about obesity surgery and here is what is says:

Obesity Surgery
The Plan covers types of bariatric and lapband surgery to treat severe morbid obesity for a
Covered Person with a Body Mass Index (BMI) ) from 35-39.99 with one co-morbid
(cardiovascular disease, hyperlipidemia, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or moderate to severe
sleep apnea) or a BMI of 40 or greater at the initial evaluation for bariatric surgery by a
Methodist bariatric physician, provided that:
■ the surgery is performed in The Methodist Hospital System; and
the Covered Person has been enrolled in the Plan for two continuous years from the
Covered Person’s last effective date; and

■ the completion of a three month nutrition and weight loss program through The
Methodist Weight Management Center has taken place.

I saw bullet number 2 and my heart drops. I have to wait 2 years before I can get it done. I am truly grateful to have the coverage but man 2 years seems like an eternity!! Are there any TMH workers on here that can tell me if they had to wait 2 year before they got covered?? I really hope that it is not the case.

Thanks,

Naomi

I agree, that doesn't sound fair. I've heard of no other disease where you have to wait before you can get treatment. I feel for you.

I know go figure. Well I better just count my blessingd bc it took me 4 years to land a job there. My last employer was too cheap to give me benefits and they were a big hospital too! Two years will hopefully fly by!

Personally I don't have a problem with that clause.  We've had several people hire on to my hospital just to get WLS then immediately quit.  It's very expensive to orient and train new employees so I certainly understand their reasoning.

I figured somewhere along the line the system was abused so I'm just happy to working there. I know I'll be there for the long haul.
