3 days post surgery update.
Well finally got my surgery on Wednesday morning. I had a RNY by Garth Davis at Methodist in Houston. Ended up staying 2 days in the hospital. Came home yesterday afternoon.
First 2 days were quite miserable I must say. Not so much from pain, but from nausea. I know there have been lots of complaints about the Methodist and their nursing staff, but I found them to be top notch for the most part. Only had a few quibbles with 2 of the overnight staff basically not speaking English. Stayed dehydrated bascially the whole time that did not help the nausea either.
Walking just fine. Still very sore and it hurts to breath. But I think I have turned the corner.
Trying to get hydrated is the main challenge right now.
More later.

You were dehydrated while IN the hospital? Did they give you IV fluids?
Why would your doctor send you home dehydrated?? Seems dangerous for him to send you home KNOWING you're dehydrated.
Maybe I just read your post wrong.
Hope you really push your fluid intake - and feel better very soon.
Take care,
Julie

Hospital staff not speaking English?!? How is that possible?
I would complain to my surgeon or the hospital about being dehydrated, and the staff. There is no excuse for that.
Being dehydrated is not good for the body in any way, shape or form. It' just plain dangerous.
Most ppl don't like to complain, but how else are they going to know that something's wrong with the system.

Yea the dehy was not fun. They ended up putting in extra bags of IV to boost me up. Really hard to drink enough. The language barrier with some of the staff is a function of the world we live in unfortunately. My issue is that it is the actual nurses who you need to communicate with, have some English issues.
5 days out and I am still quite sore. Pain woke me up last night.
Also still quite a bit of "air" in the system, but urinating and bm's are functioning. Which is a plus.
Down another 5 pounds.
Need to find out my appointment for my followup with week.
