Dr. Stewart's POST-op diet??
I will be traveling to have Dr. Stewart do my DS surgery.......so doubt I will be able to attend support groups or any other informative "classes" prior to surgery (although I am really going to try!).
Feel like I'm out of the loop on what to expect after surgery - as far as diet is concerned.
I will be going to 'classes' all day the day before surgery....but that seems too last minute to be prepared when I get home from the hospital with foods, etc.... that I can 'eat'.
So - those of you who had Dr. Stewart do your DS - what was the advice on eating after surgery?? All liquids for a while? Soft foods until XXXX weeks out? Dietary limitations???
Thanks so much for posting what YOU were told to do!!
I know every surgeon is different on what he/she suggests.....so wanted to see what Dr. Stewart's patients did. :-)
Yes....I already have it drummed into my head, "Sip, sip, sip....walk, walk, walk"!
Other than that - what does Dr. Stewart say to eat/not eat?
TIA!!!

Good to know I WILL get the info - but I was hoping for a clue before surgery. I won't get this until the day before when I have "classes" all day.
Thanks for the heads-up!

In case you get no responses here (probably more likely on the DS forum - did you post there too?), here are my surgeon's post-DS dietary instructions (please don't mind the broken English in some places, and not sure why the mention about "dumping" for us!):
* * * * * *
IMPORTANT
It’s forbidden to use sugar to avoid "dumping syndrome. It can make your stomach empty very fast then you can feel nausea, vomit, diarrhea, sweats, or your blood pressure can be down. Every food has to avoid regular sugar.
· Some patients can have problems using lactose and have the same effects in their bodies like nausea. If this happens to you, avoid regular milk and try soy milk . The regular milk has lactose but cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese does not, so you will be able to eat these
· Avoid drinks with bubbles (gas), sodas and beer. Avoid too foods like beans, broccoli, corn, green beans, green pepper, cabbage. Those kinds of food can make gas in your stomach and cause you to be uncomfortable.
Avoid acidic foods like coffee, oranges, lemon, pineapple, tomato, tomato sauce.
· Avoid food with fat like butter, fried foods, ice cream, chocolates. These can cause diarrhea.
· The evolution of each patient is different. If this diet is not good for you, stop the diet and come back to the beginning of the treatment - just liquids. The important thing is avoiding discomfort for you.
· Ingest foods in the environment (room) temperature, neither hot, nor cold
The soups if it is possible, should be home made. Just if it is possible
· When you’re are eating, do this very slowly.
· Inges****er between the meals but you can not ingest more then 100ml to 200ml for the first week
