Looking for a support group

I'm having surgery 2 weeks from tomorrow.  The local support group affiliated with the hospital nearby is not living up to expectations.  It seems to be catered to an older group of people.  A friend and I have tried going there but just don't feel like the fit is right.  I'm 35 and she's 38, we both work full time, have kids in high school and middle school.  The majority of the group we've frequented is older women, grown kids, retired... etc.

I'm in Midlothian, which is about 20 or so miles SE of Dallas.

We'd love to find a new support group that has a younger "vibe", more applicable to our current life situations.  We wouldn't mind driving a little ways, but preferable not TOO far especially if it's a weeknight.  My work day starts at 6am!

Has anyone nearby found something we might look into??

Thanks!
Heather

I know what you mean!!  I'm in the same boat here with the "older, grown, retired...etc" groups in my area too (Austin/Round Rock/Temple).  Just ain't feeling them - we're going through the same things, but then again WE'RE NOT!!!  I'm also down with the drive if I can find a good group to join.
The first surgeon I was planning on going with has a group way out in South Austin (closer to Buda in my opinion) but his are on Friday nights from 6-7 or 7-8.  Friday night traffic in Austin going South (IH 35 or Mopac) is a NIGHTMARE!!!  I don't live in Austin, so I'd have to leave my house around 3:30 to 4PM just to even THINK ABOUT making it to the 6 PM meeting because of the traffic.
Good luck in finding/starting a group and congrats on the upcoming surgery!  Making room for ya on the bench!!!

Obviously ya'll haven't found the RIGHT group of older women to hang out with cuz let me tell you this Texas group is a blast.  We range from 30's to 60's and we all act like we're 12.  We go on "road trips", have slumber parties, mani/pedi dates, heck we even have our very own "Uncle Guido" to bail us out of jail if needed.  We don't all go to the same support group meetings cuz most of us are far enough out that we no longer attend regularly or we don't live close to each other.  But distance has never kept us from having a good time.  If we've got a car and gas money, we're there.

I would be one of the 30's Steph mentioned earlier.  Did a road trip this past fall with some of the ladies.. I was drivin Miss daisy if that tells anything.. we had a BLAST.. went to our sistah Karla's bday party in Livingston. Girl by the time i dropped them all off again they were wanting to know when the next trip was!  Now mind you i have a Dodge Caliber.. nifty lil car.. but not an SUV by any means. At one point we were in wal mart tryin to figure out how to strap a 46inch flat screen tv to the top of it for Steph coz they were on sale and her hubs had just won a lil cash on the scratch off.
Now.. my girls take excellent care of me and i them.  But dont **** one of us off lol
LIz's rules of the road:
1.  IF you need to pee, lemme know
2. If you are hungry, lemme know
3. if you need a smoke, lemme know
4. Get in, get settled and if you dont like my driving, shut the F up :)

Right Steph?

Amen to Liz's rules of the road.  And hang on you'd better cuz speed limits mean nuthing to this group.  Heck if we get stopped we'll just flash the cop and pray he has a sense of humor.  (If it's my "bought and paid for" girls at least it's worth a look).  I'm still mad about that darn TV but at least we bought out all the leftover halloween candy and we all got cheap DVD players for Christmas presents.

Uncle Guido #3 here (we work in shifts cause these women need all the support they can get with all that stick stirring), does someone need bailing out or just a knee cap broken.  I happen to host a support group every other Sat in South Fort Worth with a walk/run before peep time at breakfest.  Ages are all over.  There is a colin county support group also that meets at Ikea as well as other places though out the month.
