I'm having an EGD the morning of March 26th.

Going to Denton to have Dr. Stewart do the procedure......so will be in town.

Any Dallas/Ft Worth/Denton area OH-ers wanna meet up that evening?

I'd love to meet you FTF. :-)

Let me know.

I'll be staying near the Denton Regional Medical Center......would be great if we can meet somewhere close-by there.

There's lots of places to eat around there along the 35 corridor! Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Chili's, On the Border, etc. Really close to the hospital too!

If my hubby wasn't gonna be having surgery the day before I would so be there! Not many people get this far north very often. Shucks!

We are staying at America's Best Value Inn.

I went online last night and this is the ONLY place in Denton that had a room!!! Thankfully we'll have a roof over our heads because surgery was already scheduled! LOL!

Must be the tail end of Spring Break (would explain all the hotel rooms being full).

My grown daughter and my little one (6 yrs) will be in town with me, but I'm thinking they can eat dinner on their own and I'll have some 'grown up time' with my OH friends! :-)

Not particular about WHERE we meet, just really looking forward to meeting you all!!

Jenny - we will have to get together when I come back in town for my surgery.....preferably BEFORE surgery! LOL!

For some reason, it seems like there a lot of problems finding available motel rooms in Denton when Dr. S. patients are coming to town for a consult or procedure done.    I don't know if they just have a chronic shortage of motels there or what ..

I think most of the time the patients stay at a Holiday Inn Express out by I-35 (can't remember the name of it specifically now), as they are often the only available place in town ..

This time HI was booked, too!  I am not exaggerating when I say I looked at every hotel in town!

One thing is for sure - as soon as I get my surgery date I'm booking a hotel room!!!  :-)

Y'all should try going just a little bit further south on 35 to Lewisville.  There are a lot of nice properties by Vista Ridge Mall that even have micro-fridges and kitchenettes.  Some of them even have washers and dryers that are accessible if you are going to be there for an extended period of time.

Denton doesn't have many hotel rooms and unfortunately the ones that it has are usually taken up in the fiercely competitive tourism market.  Due to UNT, TWU, Lewisville Lake, and The Texas Motor Speedway there is a pretty steady stream of people in and out.  If you don't mind paying the extra money, you could also opt to stay at a B&B though.  And, of course, you are competing with Spring Break right now, so I am sure that there are parents visiting.

Denton does have several B&B's that just don't tend to book up like the big hotels/motels do.  They are a pretty well kept secret and there is one next to a fabulous Italian restaurant, Giuseppe's, https://www.giuseppesitaliana.com  where my husband and I had our rehearsal dinner that is a very quaint place named Heritage Inn http://www.theheritageinns.com/index.html.  We haven't ever stayed there, but I know that you could walk next door and be guaranteed a fabulous dinner every evening.  We have the pleasure of knowing the owners as well since they have also catered functions at our church and they are very accommodating, so if anyone has any special requests or dietary needs, I am sure that they would be sympathetic.

Denton proper only has two B&B's that I know of, Wildwood Inn (my husband's cousin actually works there and she loves it, but we haven't been there yet) http://www.denton-wildwoodinn.com/ and Heritage Inn, but there are some others in Denton County and outlaying areas.  I think that sometimes it is nicer to have more of a homey feel when you are post-op and there is someone around that can give you that one on one attention.  I know that the Heritage Inn has one room downstairs that they call the Grandmother Room that sits in the same building as Giuseppe's, so you would have a little bit more privacy since it is away from the other guests, be closer to the restaurant and your vehicle, but you wouldn't have to go up any stairs.

If you have the cash to burn (I know, I know, who does in this economy, but we only live once), I noticed that you said that you have a kid.  I am sure that you would gain major cool points with your child if you stayed at the GreatWolf Lodge.  I'm 32 with NO kids, except for my adrenaline junky hubby, and I want to stay there!  My husband and I LOVE water slides and this place happens to be home of the BIGGES****er slide in the world.  On March 26th, they are going to have Guiness there to watch them break a world record for "longest distance water sliding in 24 hours", so that would be something iconic in and of itself.  And, one of the awesome things is that the entire park is indoors so you don't ever have to worry about our Texas weather!    http://www.greatwolf.com/grapevine/waterpark

Whatever you decide to do and wherever you decide to stay, I hope that you have a safe trip and a fabulous time.  I hope that all of this information helps.  It's always nice to know a local.  I've been here my entire life, so I am a rare breed.

Thank you for all the info, Shelby!!

I will keep this in mind when I reserve a room when I go for surgery!!!

As far as Wildwood Inn - they do not allow children under the age of 12....and mine is 6. :-(

Will look into all my options when I get my surgery date!

Thanks again for sharing your hotel knowledge!

Unless the hotel changed A LOT when the name did, you couldn't PAY ME to stay at the Best Value Inn..... it used to be (and might still be) something something something and FANTASY Suites..... and yes... it came with a jungle room, grecian room, japanese... etc etc......  they used to have a billboard that advertised it back then.....

Did you check out the new Hampton Inn and Suites  or new Best Western Atrea?  Even the older Days Inn or La Quinta would be better..... I wish the Raddison was still open.....

Karen - I am not exaggerating when I say I check out ALL the hotels in Denton!  This was the only place that had a room!!  Ugh!

Thank goodness it is only for 2 nights.

I had no choice - other than sleeping in my car.  :-)

At least I won't be "let down" - now that you've warned me!  LOL!

I appreciate the heads up.  Next time I need to go to Denton (for surgery) I will stay somewhere else.

As soon as I get my surgery 'date' I'm reserving a room!!

This time I had little advance notice - and the other hotels are probably full due to Spring Break.
