Turning into a Nervous Nellie
Ok last week I got my insurance to approve my WLS...due to various prior committments I can't do it until mid April...I'm excited but at the same time apparently the unconscious part of me is starting to stress out over it.! I'm having weird, high anxiety dreams about everything under the sun.
I gave up soda about 6 weeks ago in anticipation of WLS and I'm slowing working on changing other eating habits etc....so now I dream about accidentally drinking sodas and I wake up really upset at times....all anxiety related of course.
Should I ask my doctor to prescribe something until surgery? I'm still 6 weeks out and I will be a basket case if this keeps up during that time...on the surface I appear calm but definetly my unconscious side is freaking out.
Do most WLS candidates feel this way?

My dear you have got it going on!!! What you are doing now is so going to help you be successful!! I still sometimes dream of doing things like drinking soda or eating surgary treats. Now I wake up and laugh! If you think you need it, by all means talk to your doctor! Till then you might try a soothing herb tea to calm your mind before you go to sleep! Congrats on your approval!!

If you can find another way to de-stress, please do it. Drugs should be a last resort thing. Find some relaxing music, try aroma therapy--lavender is very relaxing, drink some calming tea, (camomile) as Meggie suggested. Watch a stupid movie.
I'm sure those addicted to soda go through withdrawal, and I think that all of us go through some kind of anxiety. That's one of the reasons we need surgery. (emotions!)
Do you have someone you can talk to when you're feeling this way?
Good luck!

The emotions you are feeling are normal for many. Try doing relaxing activities like reading a book, talking a walk if you can, a hot bubble bath, knit. Something that you have to focus on besides the changes related to WLS.
If it becomes unbeearable by all means talk to your doctor. You might also have dreams and such after WLS for a period of time.
Best wishes Tee and congrats on your approval.

Yeah, it's pretty normal to start freaking out once you get a date and it becomes *real*.
I had mine about a week before and started to have serious doubts because I was basically healthy except for being fat and I was worried about screwing up my health if I ended up with a lot of complications.
But it didn't last and by the time my surgery date rolled around I was excited and happy. And I am not sure I have quit grinning yet
You are in good hands with Dr. Davis!
I can't drink sodas at all - kills my pouch - but I rarely miss them and it is worth it to not be so fat anymore. I gave them up a couple of months before surgery and I drank 3-4 a day. I never miss the large quantities of food I used to be able to pack away - in fact, I really enjoy being able to eat small portions and still enjoy my food - I like the control my tool gives me. I was always a pretty successful dieter, just couldn't keep it off.
Good luck and see ya on the loser's bench soon!

You are feeling normal feelings at this point. You don't need meds...just laugh about it and go on. I have lived w/o sodas for 4.5 years now. You get used to it. I still think of a nice cold Dr. Pepper poured over ice at tiems but know I can't have it. I have always hated diet soda so glad I never went there.
You may have some anxiety after surgery. I remember thinking a week or so in "what have I done" but this too shall pass.
congrats on your surgery!
