Kroger's Has a "Senior Discount"?
I was standing in line earlier tonight at the checkout at Kroger, watching as the clerk ran up the lady ahead of me in line .. I noticed that after a lot of items on her list of purchased items on the overhead screen it said "sr. discount - 10%", followed by a deduction of a certain amount.
When the cashier went to ring up my goods, I asked him what was the deal with all the "sr. discount - 10%" from the prior lady's purchases. He informed me that Kroger offers seniors 10% off their purchases.
Since when??? This is the first time I ever heard of a senior discount at Kroger, and I have been a "loyal customer" of theirs for over 17 years now .. The cashier said he believed the minimum age to qualify is 50, and asked me to check w. Customer Service when they are open about it (they were closed at the time). He said that you show proof of your age to CS and they apparently put something on your store discount card that lets the computer know you are a senior anytime you go to buy there (I guess they don't care who uses the discount card, since the lady ahead of me certainly was NOT at least 50 y.o.)
I'm not yet 50, but my brother just turned 55 and he could certainly use the discount ..
Does anyone know if this really is true? If so, I wonder why Kroger is keeping it low key, apparently ..

yes it has been that way for years. My fil was living with us and used our phone number when he got his so now when I have them enter our phone number it uses that discount it is 10% on Kroger items and includes milk not sure about Meat but I think so but anything we get with the Kroger brand. And I can tell you I am not over 50. But they do not question it. It is tied to our phone number so though we do not mean to use it ..... is nice that they do

I went to mine yesterday, and they told me the cutoff is age 55. I still qualify!! They swiped my card and said it would be several days before it becomes effective.
Thanks for the heads-up!

Looks like the same process with my brother, Connie .. He said the gal at customer service didn't even ask to see his d.l. (i.e. proof of his age) .. Oddly, she also didn't ask for a home phone # to put in the record (so does that mean only HE can get the discount? ) Nothing to fill out -- he said she just swiped his discount card, punched in some stuff on her computer, and said it would take about 2 weeks or so for the discount to become active .. She also didn't tell him what things were covered by the discount and they didn't have any handout sheets on the subject ..

My brother is applying for it this afternoon (good thing he just turned 55, from what Connie said!). I asked him to see if they have an info sheet or brochure on the program they can give him to bring back for me to read, so I can see what it covers and such. I'll post more info here then.
