Afternoon Protein Shake

I was wondering how many of you guys who are farther out still do at least 2 protein shakes a day.

I still do most of the time and when I miss my afternoon shake I don't feel as good and tend to snack more on carby things.  Which is probably why I don't feel as good

Also - I tend to be unimaginative and eat/drink the same stuff every day so I am looking for some ideas of some different shake combos - what are your faves?

Have you tried Pam's hot chai tea? I never have really liked the cold shakes, plus Gertie the Pouch doesn'tlike cold stuff. But she loves this hot tea! I have it first thing in the morning and again as my LNS. It's great plain but also very easy to change up. I use various hot teas and SF syrups for variation.

Protein Hot Chai Mix
6 scoops vanilla protein powder
1.5 cups
non-fat powdered milk
3/4 cup instant unsweet tea mix
3/4 cup Splenda

1T. chai spice mix (or use half cinnamon and half ground ginger)

1t. ground cloves

1t. cardamon (original recipe calls for this, but I don't have any, so skipped it)

Mix all dry ingredients in bowl until well blended. Add 1/2 cup of mixture to mug and add either splash of cold milk or water -- stir to create smooth paste (so you don't get lumpy protein powder). Add 8oz ho****er and mix well. You can top with Light Redi Whip and a sprinkle of chai spice or drink it naked. (The drink is naked, not you.)

Recipe makes 7 half-cup servings. Calculation below is without the "splash of milk" when you're mixing the tea. If you use RediWhip -- it adds about 20 calories.

I only do one shake a day cuz I can't afford the calories if I do two.  My favorite is still one scoop CHOCOLATE Max Protein (certain GNC's) mixed with 1 cup Hood's Calorie Countdown Chocolate milk and 3 frozen strawberries,  mix in magic bullet and freeze.  Eat it like ice cream when partially frozen.  It's really best if you 1/2 defrost it and then re-mix in your magic bullet.  That way it's nice and creamy like ice cream.

I do 2 sometimes 3 most days - first one in the am is cafinated CL with vanilla/choc EAS - fast cheap and easy
the others vary - depending on time avalible, kids home, level of energy LOL
I either do anther caffine one or blueberrys and van in the blender or atkins advanges RTD

I always do one before I go pick kids up from school - otherwise I tend to either crash before dinner is ready or eat whatever they are for snack - not always a bad thing but sometimes it is

if I work out I tend to skip my 10 am feeding so I drink a RTD one on the way home from the gym

I eat/drink shakes ALL day - but remember I am hyperactive, very active physically and still nursing but have maintianed an over 200 pound weight loss going on 3 years - I am almost 4 years out

ideas for meals/snacks - same thing to me as I tend to eat every 90-120 mins LOL

brown rice with meatloaf
half a lowcarb tortilla with cheese and deli meat and spicy mustard OR left over oven fried chicken OR a scrambled egg
half a pita with any of the above
bowl of salad with a boiled egg and sprinkle of cheese and 1 t bacon crumbles (sams sells big bags of them and they add an incredible amount of taste - just make SURE you messure them - lesson learned the hard way on that one)
shrimp ****tail
whole wheat toast with pnut butter and sf maple syrup
small bowl with half a bannana pnut butter and sf maple syurp
instand chicken noodle soup with a boiled egg sliced into it
cup of instand cream of chicken soup with half serving a kashi high fiber crackers
pack of oatmeal - add splenda and applesauce
cottage cheese and berrys
cottage cheese  and tomatoes and bacon crumbles and avacado
fiber bar - 130 cals and lots of fiber
frozen wafle with slice of turkey bacon or turkey saug
fake lassona - cottage cheese with raw egg, tomatoe sauce of somekind and sprinkle of cheese on top - nuke till hot and bubbly let sit 5 mins
cheese stick and crackers
the little super cheap lunchables  - they are under 200 cal and I throw away the candy (or use if for bribes latter for the kids)
left over whatever from the night before either with whole wheat toast or crackers, low carb tortilla or crackers

I have to balance some carbs and fats in with my high protien or I end up sick and then I overeat to make up for it

ok there are some ideas for you

In May I will be two years out and I have protien powder and soy milk in decaf coffee in the morning, and a protien shake at night.  I also have 1 or 2 protien bars in a day for snacks, and I'm staying at goal wieght.

Sorry, didn't mean to hit submit yet.
My favorite protien powder is Syntrax Necter Chocolate Truffle, Vanilla Bean, or Capuchino flavors.  I use Davinci sf syrups and Eat Rite Be Fit chocolate syrup.  These are my favorite combos:
--1/2 chocolate powder, 1/2 capuchino powder, soy milk, chocolate syrup, ameretto or kaluha syrup, ice in a blender.
--chocolate powder, soy milk, cherry syrup, chocolate syrup, frozen strawberries in a blender.
--chocolate powder, soy milk, peppermint patty syrup, chocolate syrup, ice in a blender.
--vanilla powder, English Toffee syrup, soy milk, decaf coffee

My favorite protien bars are Oh Yeah! wafer chocolate mint bars.

I also get Dixie Dinner low carb chocolate muffin mix, use plain Greek yogurt instead of sour cream, egg beaters instead of egg, extra water and yogurt than is called for, sf instant chocolate pudding mix, 2 1/2 servings of chocolate protien powder, and 1/4 cup ground flax seed.  They are awsome.

I have a protein bar, sometimes two, and a protein shake everyday and I'm 18 months out at goal.  I like mixing Wal Mart's Body Fortress (vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry flavor) with frozen blueberries in the blender.  Yum!!

Thanks for the suggestions and ideas.

I worried about the extra calories of my afternoon shake, but it seems to have the opposite effect and I feel better anyway so I am sticking with it.

Amy - where do you get the Dixie muffin mix?  My friend at work who is doing WW was making some low-fat muffins the other day and I suggested she use an egg beater for the egg and it cut it back even more.  Those sound good and I could return the favor by making some of yours for her next week.
