Cereal with banana is the devil!
For the last 2 nights I've had a small bowl of cereal with a banana before I went to bed. Yeah, I know, not the smartest thing to do but...but....it was 2am, supper was almost 8 hours ago and my tummy was growling. That's my story! Oh yea....and my head was talking to me!
So this morning, not wanting to cheat myself, I added it to my journal like a good girl. OMG! The carbs from the Kashi Go Lean, 1% milk and a small yellow fruit is over half my days total! And there was no protein in sight to offset anything! Plus, on top of all that I was starving when I woke up this morning...that's a first since surgery.
I went ahead and planned out the rest of my day. There's no way around it, if I want to hit my protein for the day I'll have to go over on both calories and carbs. But so be it....I'm thinking the protein is more important!
Oh well....I'll keep the memory of that crunchy, almond flavored cereal with the sweet banana taste in my mind for a while longer.....it sure was good!

Just a suggestion--try Kay's Naturals cereals. I eat them dry because I'm scared to try them with milk yet, but they've got a ton of protein per serving. Usually around 12 grams, and you still feel a bit like you're cheating because it's cereal and it tastes so good! I picked up a sample of one (vanilla almond?) at the Dallas conference and have tried cinnamon apple since. Both were super yummy.
I aspire to be as good at getting all of my foods in as you are. I still really struggle with getting enough.

LOL.....Oh, Baby...I'm the champion label reader....usually! I started out just gonna have a few chunks for a quick sweet crispy something before bed. But being raised on a bowl of cereal before bed I thought just a little bit of milk on a few spoonfuls of cereal would be SO good. Then I saw the banana laying there smiling at me. I don't even like bananas except in cereal. So in the blink of an eye I went from a couple bites of crunch to a loaded bowl of cereal....labels be damned!
I am not on speaking terms with bananas!
Not since I had to go home from work one day. I got so sick when I put half of one in my morning protein shake - and that is the only day I have missed from work due to my surgery except the 2 weeks I was off recouping.
Now granted it was early out, but I haven't forgotten how I felt and the calories just aren't worth it - you are right - they are high!

The only food I actaully dumped on was peanut butter and it was bad, but I can eat it now.
The milk and bananas made me nauseous so I guess it was a mild form of dumping. Milk in general made me queasy early on so I switched to Lactose-Free milk in my protein shakes. It doesn't bother me now.
The only thing sugar did early on was make me so sleepy I had to go lay down - not as bad now, so I think you are on to something LOL.
I had more trouble with fats and couldn't eat bacon early on, but can now.
See a trend.......? Our bodies adjust and I think it contributes to the struggle with re-gain the farther out you are.

personally I haven't found anything healthy about anything Kashi.
milk is sugar, bananas are equal to 3/4 cup sugar each and the cereal, well.. anyway.
I buy the Special K protein plus at Walmart (blue box) it's 9 grams of protein and 9 net carbs. I mix it in low card cereal or eat it as a snack.
