Food diary and technology

Generally, I do not post much being the newbie I am like to gather information. I figured I would put this information out there for those of you  who may not know. I know that alot of people like to use food diaries and exercise diaries. If any of you own a Android based cell phone I found a very good free application that lets you scan the bar code of a item to help with entering items into the food diary. The exercise diary allows you to input any activity and it has some of the calories burned for the activity in the application. I will admit I do not 100% use the application all the time but it is a life saver when you are at work or out and about to jot things down. I find that if I am going to have new technology it should benefit me. The application is located on the Android market place and is called calorie counter. Again, I do not know how many of you have upgraded your cell phone to a Android based, but if you decide to another positive is the application.

that is really neat!!  I have been looking to upgrade my phone and find a good food log program.  Does this only track calories, or does it also track things like protein and sugar?

In its default setup it tracks protein, calories, fat, and sugar. However, you can customize it to  track other items such a various vitamins I believe I have not done much beyond  the standard setup. I am only tracking what my nutritionist wants me to keep a eye on.

I agree...it's great! I got my Droid around Thanksgiving and the Calory Counter is one of the first apps I downloaded. I like that it syncs with the online site called Fat Secret (I hate that name!), so it doesn't matter whether I enter things on my phone or my desktop, both automatically show up online. It also has a good recipe builder that to me is easier to use than Sparks. One of the things I also like is I can search for food by popular brands, restaurants/chains, common foods and supermarkets. It's very rare when I have to add a food but I can if needed.

It is nice to have such a useful tool at our finger tips. I showed off the application yesterday to my nutritionist and she loves it. Now, she wants to get a Android phone also. I currently just use it just on the phone  not syncing with another program or website yet. Mainly using it to gage calorie, protein, fat, and sugar intake because the nutritionist is limiting my exercising until I can take in enough calories to sustain my weight-loss with out losing muscle mass specifically heart mass since the heart is one big muscle. I am not doing bad.  I have the weight loss under control but still have to get calories closer to 1800 so that once I start a my exercise regimen I  do not do more harm then good. It is difficult for us to balance everything just right to promote healthy weight-loss and then maintain once we reach a goal. So when I find a useful tool to help I like to share it. I also like the fact the application has a exercise diary built into it also. I am still learning to use the application and wanted to put the word out about the application since a lot of us these days carry cell phones and it is about time we use them to help us with our life styles.
