question for the cooks
I need ideas on things I can sub for the oil in salad dressing - I can do a resonable low fat low cal ranch but really wanted my homemade french today - made it ATE it then discovered I had added170 cals to my 250 cal lunch - Opps
or I 'll take suggestions on low cal french dressings you have purchased or made - eating a lot of salads to help kick the carb bad habits I'd picked up

I don't know what your recipe calls for, but I've seen several recipes on line for French dressing that just omits the oil....
* French Dressing (Without Oil) *
* Makes 3 tbsp *
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 tsp white wine vinegar
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp sugar
1/8 tsp made-up mild mustard
freshly-ground black pepper to taste
Put it all in a screw-top jar and shake well. Keep it in the fridge
and shake before serving.

Totally OT for your question...well, sorta anyway...
in relation to your menu planning question for last week....
Anyway, FlyLady just sent me an email about a menu planning thing they have you might be able to work with. I haven't looked yet. Might be worthless.

Kris if it's the same one she had a few years ago it was a good deal - we discovered quite a few things my kids still eat that I wouldn't have thought of - inside out lassona is still a fav at our house - you pick the "kind" of diet you want, reg, low fat, low carb, budget, for 2, kosier, veggie . Then you get a menu for 6 days a week plus recipes and side suggestions (when serving the inside out lassona add frozen brocolli and a quick green salad, serve with the whole wheat hoggie buns made into garlic toast) You also get a grocery list - it may seem pricey to do the meals but they really aren't bad, they even give you portion sizes - I always need that :)

I'm in love with the Salad Spritzer - Ranch Vinegrette - not homemade, but really yummy and nearly 0 calories. Never thought I would enjoy something like this on a salad, but it has the flavor of ranch dressing with the kick of a vinegrette which I love. Just a thought, but you might want to give it a try.

As I type, I'm eating some right now on a salad :) I add a splash of herb seasoning too, but overall the flavor is pretty good, especially with bell peppers. I'll eat red/yellow BP's by themselves with some of the Ranch/Vinegrette spritz'd on top. I've also been experimenting with salads and have been making salads with drained/rinsed black beans, raw sliced bell peppers, cucumbers and a little bit of white corn - then put your salad spritzer or balsamic vinegar over it - yummy and not bad on protein with the beans added. You can also chop/add fresh cilantro and alvocado for a good fat. Just thought I'd share!
