Need advice...

I've been thinking about having WLS myself since approximately Thanksgiving weekend; and having had talked to my mom about, decided that it was something I wanted to do.  I've made a few changes so far, and am wo rking on making a better, and healthier life for myself.  First off, I have quit smoking, and have been free for almost 2 months now (man the time flies...).
Anywho....I just found out today that I can't be added to my mom's insurance policy, because I'm too old.  (It ended at the end of the month by which I turned 23).  So, if anyone knows of any medical insurance companies that I could possibly look into.  Since I work part time, I don't qualify for medical benefits where I work.....kinda sucks, but can't really do anything about it.  If anyone has any advice on this, I'd appreciate it.  Right now, I have no idea where to even start looking.

Hi there!!!  Did you see the suggestion someone had in Phyllis' thread.  I think it was the Texas Department of Rehabilitation.  Also, Que says to check the university, since you are a full time student, see if they have some kind of insurance which may cover it.

Congrats on the smoking.  Stick to that regardless.  There will come a time when the surgery will be available to you.  It is nice to be as healthy as possible when going into the surgery.

AMANDA-I am sooooooo proud of you for droppng those stinkin' cigarettes-think of how GOOD your clothes and hair are going to smell now, how kissable you're gonna be for all the cute guys, and all the $$ you're gonna save (but not necessarily in that order..lol)....

I'm sure you've read your mom's thread by now, and gotten all the good ideas there. Starbucks used to provide insurance , even fot PT help-sure wouldn't hurt to ASK-I still see the signs in all the stores I visit.

On the insurance thing, I think that's probably becoming the "usual". My husband was able to KEEP my stepson on, DURING college, but could not have ADDED him after age 22, had he not already been on the policy.

Please just know we all behind you 100%, whether your future includes WLS or not!

Amanda- congrats on quitting smoking-woo hoo! PM me if you want specific information on the Division for Rehabilitation Services (formerly Texas Rehab Commission) and what their criteria are to pay for WLS. I work for the state and they're our sister agency so I can give you info and find out whatever you need that I don't know off-hand.

hey there,
Congrats on continuing to be smoke free.  I have no idea where you work, but you may want to consider a job change .. Starbucks offers insurance to their part time employees.. and they cover WLS. just a thought :)

Hmm....that's a thought in of itself.  I work where my mom works in the evenings right now.  But if I ever lost my job there, I probably wouldn't mind trying to get on at starbucks.  Hell knows.....Starbucks employee discount plus wls.......I'd be in heaven!  Really, as long as I can pay my car, and other expenses.....I'm fine.  But thanks.....if I could get on for the weekends only, that might not be a bad idea.  Trouble with that, is not knowing if I'll still have time for homework, and rest time, and prep time for the week ahead.
