Calling anyone that knows anything about Alzheimers

Hey Ya'll,

I have an Uncle that I am pretty close to down in Florida.  A few years back he was diagnosed with Alzheimers.  When I spoke to my Mom yesterday she said that my Aunt had droppe him at their house yesterday for a few hours while she did some errands.  Mom said he was unresponsive.  This morning she got a call from my Aunt saying she had been up all night with him again unresponsive.  Does not know his name or where he is.  They called 911 and they took him to the VA hospital and admitted him.  Still totally unresponsive.  My Aunt just cant do it anymore and we are hoping they will put him in a nurcing home.  My question is...what stage of Alzheimers is this?  I just dont know what to expect.  I will be heading down there in a couple of weeks.  My dad is having a hard time with this as this is his only living sibling.  I worry about him too.  Anyway if anyone has any insite I would appreciate it.  Would also appreciate prayers for him and for my Dad.  Love you guys.  Michelle

MICHELLE-First off, special prayers for your aunt (it's so hard on the spouses) and for your dad.

Now, you say he's "unresponsive"...Do you mean like in a coma type state? If so, that is often signs of the final state..BUT..I'm not THERE, of course, and can only go by what you are telling me. Basically what happens with Alzheimer's is that it robs the brain of knowing what to do...finally including how to breathe...It is usually a peaceful passing, if allowed to be.

If he goes to the nursing home, I hope your aunt will consider hospice care. It will be a wonderful addition to the other care he will recieve. if I can answer any questions, don't hesitate to hollar.

Thank you Gina,

By unresponsive, I mean he does not know his name or where he is.  The only responce they got out of him all day, was a little grunt as they got ready to leave and my Aunt put her hands and his face and once again reminded him that he was in the hospital.  Other then that nothing...of course he has lost total controll of his bowels and all that goes with that.  We were all really afraid my Aunt would never let anyone help her because she is so strong willed. Thank God she is.  I am guessing that he wont be coming home anytime soon.  Looking forward to getting down there to see him.  Thanks again for your responce!  Love you!

Prayers are with you and yours.  It is a terrible thing to go through.  Mary's Aunt Mary (after who she is named) had Alzheimer's.  Mary had not seen her in several years because of my military assignments.  We went to visit her about six months before she passed.  It was very hard on Mary, she went into a deep depression for days because her favorite aunt had no idea who she was.  I don't want to get you down with this information, just want to make sure you totally understand what may happen (which I am sure you do).

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

Hi May God Bless Your family and the family.  Alzheimer's is one of the most heart breaking disease, you know there here in body but not in mind.  I'm not sure of the stage your Uncle is in but if you got to yahoo.  and type in stages of Alzheimer's you might it your answer.  I just came from my mom and she has Alzheimer's
she has gotten so thin.  You can not longer understand what she is trying to say. Our brother passed with cancer a few days before Thanksgiving, and our father passed a few days before Christmas.  And of course she knows nothing of what have happen.
My father passed from a broken heart after my brother passed knowing my mom didn't know anything that was going on he went to sleep.  He slept for a month and he only open his eyes only to see the Grand babies and Great-grands.  We buried them both with everyone wonder why my Mom was not there in attendance with us.
God Bless You'll.  It's a hard thing to deal with.
I was on my way to the site myself.

My prayers are with you and your family.  It sounds like you are getting a lot at once.  I pray that you keep your strength and that you have someone to talk to, and that God will hold you up when this seems like too much to handle.
