Hello my sweet Texas board!

After trying to conceive for almost a year and jumping through multiple fertility hoops, I am so excited to say we are finally PREGNANT with our 2nd child!!  Our son is almost 6 and this is such a blessing!!!

I am 3 1/2 years Post Op and have maintained perfectly!  I would really, really like any ideas, info, support from any of you for a successful pregnancy!!  I'm worried about eating so little, but I'm also worried about putting on baby weight.

Thank you friends for your ideas.....

Congrats on your wonderful news!!  It takes about 300 extra calories a day to support a pregnancy.

There is a specific board on OH for this---you might want to check it out:

Way to go!  I am happy for you.  I know that you have been trying for a long time.

I went through a pregnancy.  I had complications, but I developed a hernia that made me not able to eat.  I didn't find out until after having my daughter.  My OB/GYN SPECIALIZES in post WLS pregnancy.  He has had many patients go to him.  He told me that I was an EXTREMLY rare case.  He said that the baby will get nutrition before me and that she would be perfectly healthy.  He said that out of all his post op patients, I was only second one that had had a hard time with nutrition.  (Just a note..... I had problems after my pregnancy too.)  If you you don't have a OBGYN with a lot of experience in this field, and would like one, I would be more than happy to give you his name.  He is at Baylor Dallas.

Danni is right... When I was in the hospital, my physician had me eating icecream.  He told me to run from anything that said sugar-free.  He wanted me to have the carbs and calories.  This was the only time since RYGB that I didn't dump with sugar.  Your baby needs it.  Your body will tolerate things that it needs.  If you are not getting in enough food, try snacking more.  You can always increase your calorie count if you can not get in more foods.

I agree that it is a good idea to see a nutritionist.  There are some that have experience with WLS and can give you advice on things that you can tolerate that your body/baby will need.

congrates - Gina is right my missy Rachel is almost 2

main thing is make sure while pg and nursing you get carbs - no this does not mean cheetos :) but do add some brown rice, veggies, whole wheat pasta or wraps, milk if you tolorate it - babys need carbs!!!!

you can pick up ketosis pee strips from walmart by the bloodsugar stuff - $4 a box or so - cheap for lack of worry

make sure your doc does NOT make you take a glucose tolorance test - I personally refuse to puke for anyone's amusment -

I ate all kinds of stuff pg and early out (when Rach was under 2-3 months of age) that I never tolorated before post op or since - it was the only time I could drink milk in the last 4 years

you don't need to gain a lot but you will need to gain some - when your doc or nut t(and pls do see a nut if at all possible) tell you 300-500 extra cals remember you do not obsorb all your foods and nutrition

get B-12 shots - they are easy cheap and keep your brain functioning and the allows babys to form properly - remember your body will give up stuff for the baby - and you want a functioning brian so you can enjoy this little blessing

there is a pg board - I had a hard time reading it b/c so many of the gals were early out and did not have great outcomes and it depressed me but they do have info - so I would go, read what I needed and come back to the tmb where I was and am loved

feel free to hollar at me if you have any other questions - and I really won't try to talk you into cloth diapers (unless you want to use them then I'll talk your ear off) but am very probreastfeeding

btw Deb got a thing that said post WLS nursing for 6 weeks is good - umm not so much LOL we do the child led weaning thing - my babies are hard to get here and get home from the hospital and we decided early on that if we could bring them home and teach them to nurse we would let them nurse till they are done

peace

While I was pregnant with Ian, I pretty much ate nonstop.  Try to eat on a couple of hours kind of schedule, as I did have some blood sugar drops, but nothing major.
If I remember correctly, I only gained about 20-25 lbs or so, but I delivered 5 weeks and some change early, so I never got huge in that last month or so like some folks do.

I'll echo Danni in just taking what you need from the pregnancy board. Personally, I found it mostly terribly annoying and whiny, with some good info sprinkled in. (might have been hormones, though!)

I wouldn't worry too much about gaining, etc. as long as you stay within normal limits, I just pretty much ate when my body told me to and tried to make it protein or complex carbs.

Rachel
