Guidance Needed: Can I quit food?
I am almost 2 years post op and have recently started having issues.
I know I don't post on here often and even took a hiatus there for awhile.
But I have no one to turn to right now...
Recently, I have been feeling like absolute crud after eating. I know my portion size has increased, but not like pre-surgery. But it seems that every time I eat (not just this food or that-but ALL food), it makes me feel yucky. I feel like I want to throw up, I usually fall asleep just to avoid the yuck. I do a lot of burping and spitting up of saliva but can't seem to get anything else to come up.
It reminds me of dumping...but I don't understand what's triggering it. Nothing has changed diet wise-it's all the same foods. Healthy and non-healthy.
Last night after eating, I felt worse then being drunk on the verge of passing out (remember those fun teenage years) LOL. But seriously, I shouldn't feel that way nearly every time I eat.
I don't have insurance right now, so I can't exactly go to a doctor. But I'm really at a loss shy of quitting food....either going the pure liquid route or just not eating at all.
Help me please!! :-)
Thank you
-Jessica

Jessica, I've been feeling some yucky feelings after meals also more than ever. Doesn't matter if it's healthy or crap, I just feel yuck.
How much water are you drinking? I feel some of the way I feel is not enough water and possibly some minor dehydration, IDK.
I think you'll be ok if you go liquid only (read protein shakes you MUST have protein) for a few days to rest your stomach. I think I need to follow this guide too but haven't gotten it in my mind that I need to do it.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I know I'm drinking enough water...but I am certainly getting in more liquids now than I was a month ago.
But I may go to liquids for a few days/week just to see if I can straighten my system out...definitely protein shakes, maybe some simple soups.....
I sometimes feel yucky even when I drink-that's what worries me too.
Thanks again!!!

It seems that a latent side effect of the RNY is developing severe reactive hypoglycemia. It might be something to look into (there are several memembers on the grad forum that have posted about it.)
In general, it means that you'll have to eat like a diabetic, keep your carbs/sugars in your diet real low, eat mostly lean proteins and veggies, and eat often.

Jessica....I remember that you live in the area....not sure if Tarrant or Dallas County but you know you can go to either John Peter Smith or Parkland Hospital without insurance and they HAVE to see you. If it continues and you can't get anything to make you better that would be a good thing to do. Try Liquids as Dana has suggested and hopefully you will feel better soon. Hope you get better soon too Dana !!! Prayers being said for you and we have missed you on the board !!!

Vivian,
You are right, I do live in the area. I don't think it's to the point of going to the hospital or anything, I just hate that I've gotten this far without issues and now all of a sudden I'm experiencing things that I don't know how to handle.
I definitely think I'll try liquids for awhile and see if that helps.
Thanks again Vivian. As always you are a sweetheart :-)
Hugs,
Jessica

I'm just over 2 years also and have recently begun to experience some of these same symptoms. I think the ladies are right. According to my doctor it is a form of dumping. Remember we can react to too much sugar as well as fat and he said as portions increase so does the overall intake of fat and sugar and as a result if I don't keep to the small portions I will experience negative symptoms - just the same as yours. If it is a carb crash a small cracker with PB helps. If its fats I'm in for a long recovery period. The only time I get that saliva, burping thing going on is if I ate too much, too fast. I'd say just slow down, go back to some basics without sugar and fat and measure your portions out...eating smaller meals and more often if you need to.

hey girlie - miss you - not a whole lot to add except that there are a lot of people several years out that time to let their tummys calm down after being upset by just sipping protien shakes and water/tea/cl for a day or 3 - as long as you are making sure you get enough protien in you should be ok - just a thought however, you might want to make sure you are getting SOME carbs in - healthy ones if at all possible - your brain functions on carbs, yes you do lose weight in ketosis (lack of carb state) but you also lose some clarity of thinking - it's also bad for pg or nursing mommas - so if you go the shake route and start to feel a little less with it than try to add in some carbs.
