Well - some of you all know that my daughter Amanda has been trying to get more involved in my weight loss.          she has been doing much more research than I ever knew to do ****il I  was told about this site  - AFTER MY SURGERY)  and she is interested in having weight loss surgery.
I told her to quit smoking  - she has...........its been 8 weeks this week.............and just doing various different things.............trying to make 2010 the year to make changes for her....
I told her that I would only be able to add her to my insurance policy if she  quit smoking...............
SHE HAS.........

She started back up FT in college in Jan because I thought that I could add her to my policy at work as long as she was a FT student...........I can and was told to 24.............NOT !!   Only till the end of the month that she turns or turned 23..............that was LAST OCT  09 !!  lol

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I got the pleasure of telling her this news today and I did so by text..... I just hope that she doesn't resort back to smoking again because she gets to frustrated so easily........

NOW COMES THE TASK of trying to figure out what she can do financially to try to get this surgery done............................just pray for her

  • Pease check out Dr. Connie Stapleton's Website. A lot of good information on there for all WLS patients regardless of the surgery you chose.  Good luck to all and I'm here for you if you want to send me an email.  I'll answer it as soon as possible.

Phyllis....I wonder if Amanda has thought about getting a job with a company that covers WLS as one of their benifits????   Just a thought !!!  I am so sorry poor Amanda and you too are having to go through all this.   Praying really hard that she won't revert back to smoking.    If she has gone 8 weeks.....surely she would go back to it.    I think I would appeal that with the insurance co.   I have always heard till the age of 24!!!   That stinks !!!!

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

Check the university she is enrolled in.  They almost always have low cost insurance to cover students.  Now whether or not it will cover WLS, who knows.

Thanks very much....this helps a lot.  Now I have an idea of a couple places to go.  As for finding a job for the insurance part; I currently go to school full time, and work part time in the evenings.  The only time I would even possibly have would be Friday during the day, Saturday and Sunday.  Not saying this to make an excuse for that suggestion...just currently busy with school and the job I have now, and need all the extra time I can find and get to do homework, since I typically don't get off work every night until about 10:30-12:00 midnight (ish).  I believe I'll check with my school today, to see if they have an insurance plan, and ask if it might cover WLS.  As far as the other idea goes....and it's possible requirements.....I'd happily go through just about any doctor, or place would be available, and would strive hard to fulfill their requirements for approval.  To answer the worry for resorting to smoking.......No.  I still have faith, and a strong desire for this.  I plan to make it happen, whether it happens this year, or not, and no matter how long it takes (hopefully not like toooo long...heh).  I am very much determined to make this happen, and will continue to press forward as much as I can....and I believe that returning to smoking would simply just set me back, and I want this wls bad enough that I gladly quit smoking, and don't plan on starting back up just because I happen to hit a bump in the road.  There's ALWAYS a way.....just looking to take the easier way (insurance) first.   Unfortunately, and probably luckily, my weight doesn't and has not had an impact on my ability to work, nor has it kept me from getting or keeping a job.  This I am glad about....however, I really want to get healthy, I want to be able to climb stairs, or walk across the campus of my community college without feeling like I've just climbed a freaking mountain.  I want my knees to stop hurting just because I've walked through a mall.  And I want to just even once....or more :) be able to go into a store in the mall, and try on like everything that used to not fit me.  I love Hot Topic.....it's like my favorite store....but if I do buy any clothes, it's typically only t-shirts, cause like, everything else doesn't fit me (it's too small), and even the t-shirts, and hoodies for my size are like more expensive than the same product costs for the same design (shirts, hoodies, pants, etc.).  I think this may quite possibly be my first wow moment in the future.....heh.

Well....off to school, woke up late, and now really late, but wanted to write and post this.  Thanks everyone for the helpful advice, and I'll keep ya'll posted on how things are progressing.  Sorry this post was so long.
