Faithful February Tuesday

Don't forget February is a short month...don't wait until the last minute to jump on the bandwagon.  This is an encouraging, supportive free way to be accountable for what you eat when trying to lose or maintain your weight after wls.

I'm down a lb. today...hope I don't find it tomorrow.  I guess the exercise does help.  I already rode my bike for 30 minutes this morning.

My plan:
protein coffee already downed
lots of liquids
Atkins or Click shake
leftover Mexican casserole for lunch
leftover chicken piccata for dinner w/ salad
Trail mix or sf pistachio pudding w pineapple for snack

What's your plan for today?

Karla

Good Morning!!  Well I did great yesterday until I got home and the snack monster got me.... damn those peppermints and SF dove candies!!!!  Made hubby hide them last night so I won't be tempted today!!!!
So for those of  you on maintenance... how did you determine how many calories you can eat a day??  I am so use to eating 800-1200 cal a day... I'm scared to death to eat more!!!  I totally pigged out last night and lost have a pound this morning.  Granted it probably hasn't caught up with me yet... but the scale just baffles me!!!!

Okay so on with my plan....

I aim for 800 and usually end up with more like 1000.  I know some folks eat more, but when I do I gain. My doctor thought I shold be at 1600-2000, but I tried that for about 2 weeks and gained 8 pounds. I'm still trying to get off the last of that, but he agreed that for me...I might have to go lower.  I did visit with the NUT and discussed food selection, vits and supplements. On proteins, I rarely use one that is not a meal replacement...that is, loaded with vits/minerals. Otherwise it is only a protein sup and on this low of cals I need the extra vits/minerals.

Do you feel like wls has totally messed up your metabolism? I sure think it has! I guess the only way to figure out how high I can go is by trial and error! But that's such a scary thought!

I definately feel like it's messed with my metabolism.  I have to stay under 900 to lose and 1000-1200 to maintain.  That's NOT much food.  I thought I did really good yesterday but when I logged it I was over 1100 calories. I only had 2 meager meals and one protein drink.  Yikes, imagine what I used to eat!!

No. I think the years of dieting caused the problem and that with WLS I would not be able to eat this small of an amount.  Thats why I coud never lose weight on a traditional diet..and keep it of.  Without my pouch there is no way I could eat 8-900 cals. I'd be hungry all of the time, but with the rerouting of my insides I don't have those pesky hormones creating hunger signals all of the time and I'm able to eat much less.  I'm actually doing a research project this semester on Leptin and so far I have 8 pages of documented research on how and why leptin misbehaves and there is actually scientific studies that explain a gene mutation. The problem is that leptin is produced in fat cells and it is leptin that signals hunger....therefore the more fat cel you have, the hungrier you'll be.  See the problem?  Anyway...we're absolutely messed up but in this case WLS fixed me. The metabo was already broken.

Good Morning Karla & TMB,

I looked at my weight from January 28th or so from 2009 to now...I lost 13 pounds total in a year.  And while I am not totally happy about this because I should be finished and at goal, I am thankful that it is a loss and not a gain.  Of course it you count all the gaining and losing throughout last year...I don't think I want to add it up because it will make me sick.

I made through the first day of carb rehab yesterday.  I will still try to remain in rehab through Thursday night and then the festivities begin again.  However, I will check back in rehab on next Monday.

Ok I'm heading in to the office today, but I have at least most of the day planned so far:

Protein coffee
Fiber plus bar
Egg beaters w/ ham, veggies & cheese
Beef vegetable soup
Turkey burger
Apple

Going to Starbucks today, but think I'll just stick with tea there, fewer calories a much cheaper.

Haven't been awake long enough to make a complete plan yet.  I do know that I want baked ziti for dinner so I will have to be good my other 2 meals.  I'm thinking about chicken salad lettuce wraps for lunch and a bagel for breakfast.  It's the snacks I have to be careful about.  I need to keep myself busy and then I don't snack as much *sigh*
