2010 OH CONFERENCE IN HOUSTON.....NOV. 5-6TH
I filled out the survey extensively but would be MORE than happy to email them and ask how they decide on speakers and what we oldtimers would like to see.
I had planned to write them before this conference date even came about with questions about the last conference and some of the 'choices' they made.
Who is the best person to contact, and how? I think it is well worth the time to let them know what we need. Now if anything comes of it, that is another story!
yes, business is business. But they could make lots of money off of us as well. didn't those girdle women make a killing?
And ultimately if there is nothing new, I will still be there if I can. but I won't be listening to the SOS again.

I just went to the events page and this is what they have posted so far:
We are starting off our 2010 schedule with speakers at the tops of their fields, such as Dr. Garth Davis, Mary Jo Rapini, Dr. Connie Stapleton and Chef Dave. In addition, Jeremy Gentles will be offering his exercise physiology expertise, specific to bariatrics. Watch this page for the additional speakers to be announced!
On the events page, there is info about contacting them as well as a fax number if you want to go that route. I sincerely hope that the speakers that we see each and everytime have NEW stuff. We've heard the same lecture with the same pictures from Dr LoMonoco several times now.
In my letter (from what I can remember) I discussed the time management issue, the lack of a good role model in the moderator, the need for lectures on lab values, vitamin regimens (with HANDOUTS), maintanence pitfalls and how to bounce back from regain, and how much I enjoyed the cooking and exercise lectures. I sure there was tons of other stuff but I cn't remember now. Maybe you could tell them that maybe they should start a "thread" on what we want and don't want for OUR conference. I'm sure a lot of people would post.
And BTW, the "girdle" women made a fortune but OH didn't make a dime other than renting them a booth.

That's just what I was thinking. they need to start a thread asking what would everyone want to see and hear. And yes, I sure don't want to see any more kitty cat pics.
You letter and your points are just what i will be saying because I agree completely.
thanks for the info.

At the previous conference I spoke at length with several of the OH reps about some concerns I had. Like Nurse Gina, i have been a long standing member of OH (yes i remember when they all had Diva names!) so i have been around awhile. I mentioned things i found fault with and i mentioned things i enjoyed. When i returned home later, I also sent a follow up email. Which i got a response to!
I gave specific detail both in writing and in person, specific examples etc. I gave VALID reasons why i had these concerns, which the OH reps claimed they were surprised to hear about stating 'we are in California, if you guys dont let us know about these issues, we have no idea.' hmmmm interesting concept! Now, whether or not anything will be done is a different story. but at least my voice was heard. (as usual lol).
So.. if you have a whine or complaint, here is my USUAL advice, instead of sitting around *****ing about it, see what you can DO to FIX it!

Great minds think alike...
oh just remembered...one of the things that REALLY ticked me off at the last conference was the dude at the desk was insistant we turn in the surveys before the conference even started!! He said we needed to turn them in so we could get entered for the door prizes. So needless to say THAT didn't give them much honest or accurate feedback.

Not that my opinion matters or that anyone cares....
but the only reason I go is to hang out with my favorite people (before, during and after the conference...remember that Houston is a stone's throw from the beach!), and as always to
SLEEP WITH GINA! hehe!
I figure the $20 pays for my food and if I get anything out of it (besides fellowship) then that's all right too!
Love you guys!
