I'm probably not going to say anything that has not already been said. But, the bottom line is money. OH is about money just like anything else. They have  a staff they have to pay. But, as far as people taking their profile down, and not putting faces up. C'mon  don't you think that everyone knows what you look like already. It is out there all over the place. I had a inmate google my name and WLS. She found FB Myspace and Here. We have always had a policy where I work "Don't ever post anything anywhere on a public site that you would not be embarrassed for the whole institution to see or hear" We are only hurting ourselves by saying we won't go to the conventions or sharing information. Maybe it should just be in private emails to our true close friends. Someone said, I'm not gonna post my address or town. People, don't you think anyone that wants to find out where you live and have lived in your entire life can trace it. It is free. Just google yourself. We can tell you how much your last electric bill was.
Bottom line. It is about money..  A ton of us veterans like myself (6 yrs out) moved over to FB. These doctors aren't making money out of us. They need newbies. They need to do more procedures to keeping bringing in money.
Hugs to you all. Don't mean anything ugly. Just my two cents.

Smile, it increases your face value.

Gina thanks. I did not want to **** anyone off I just wanted them to know that the bottom line is money. They do not cater to the Veteran because that is not where the money is.  They will do what they need to do to get the new people in here with the Conferences. If we stop going, it will only hurt us. Not OH. They are so cheap to begin with.
The point I was trying to make about changing your names or pictures etc. Everything is out there already. Information that you don't want people to have take it off your proflie. But, don't make the rest of us pay by losing you all together. Maybe when WLS peeps get as far out as us they will understand what we are talking about. Hugs & Much Love to you all..

Smile, it increases your face value.

I'm not mad; not at you or OH.  I'm mad at myself.  I KNOW this stuff, or at least I did.  I got too comfortable and let my guard down.  Completely my fault, but I still have to make corrections.

I said in my original post that I had to think about all of this.  What I did was go back and chnaged my profile and avatar to be what it should have been in the first place.  I realise this is no different than locking my car.  A thief who wants in will get in my car will and a person who wants to out me fromOH is going to do it even if I make precautions.  I'm only keeping honest people honest and keeping honest mistakes from happening.

I'm not leaving OH, but I will be more cautious.  My eyes are more wide open.

I am with you T and Sarah....As you can tell from my sign on, I don't like having my name out there and I sure wouldn't want someone to get pissed off at me (like anyone here would get pissed off at me) and post my personal pain or pics on FB or anywhere else the "general" public frequents.

I have always been careful of personal information and have been surprised at the many times that socialization has occurred and everyone has posted they were going to be away from home for the evening, weekend or longer, but then this is off subject.....

I notified a few friends I do have on here about the share button in case they do have pics or something they would never wanted shared.  I have not read OH's privacy policy, but then when I signed up, there was no share button.  I will definitely be more guarded about what I post.

I am certainly going to let my voice be heard on this.  Thanks for the heads up to whoever posted this first.

I have had several days to reflect on the change and I still don't like it.

I don't care that anyone could always C&P at any time.  NOBODY I know in real life (support group members excluded) has ever heard of an obscure site called "OH", but I can't think of one person who doesn't know what FB is.  The only people who find OH, or are remotely interested in it, are people in the same boat as I was when I started researching weight loss surgeries.  For that reason I felt it was a "safe haven" to discuss my weight and other personal issues.  I don't feel that way any more.

Would it upset me greatly to have something posted here on FB?  No, not really.  My objection is more subtle than that.  It is more of a "I would rather it not be posted" sort of thing and it shouldn't be so damn convenient........

ya know hon, you are right and that's the sad part. There is no privacy left in the world.

I think this is just a reminder that this site is just plain a business. They will do anything to make money.  And us oldtimers are irrelavent. Makes me feel like an old horse sent out to pasture and soon enough the glue factory truck will come along.

We can't make changes that will matter. They are gonna do what they are gonna do. I know it's about money but they could cater to us a bit more, don't you think?  If not, then we go elsewhere to get what we need.

It amazes me that people don't realize or think of OH as being a business.  But, it is.  And as you say, bottom line for businesses is money.
