Thanks for all off your prayers, support, and comments concerning the Cigna Insurance delay tactics on getting the lap band approved. Well, to make a long story short, Monday the surgery was denied. Tuesday, Doctor Storey called and talked to Cigna to get them 'straightened out'. Now the lap band surgery has been approved and I have a surgery date! I will be at the Doctor's Outpatient Surgicenter at 8:00 A.M., Monday, December 29, 2008 for surgery at 9:00 A.M. with Doctor Storey. If there are no complications I will be going home that day. Please! Keep me in your prayers and thank you so very much for your support. Going under anesthesia has always been a bit scary for me and I usually wake up sick at my stomach even with anti-nausea medication. I hope I will be able to loose the excess weight, maintain the weight loss, have firm elastic-all shrinking skin, and live a healthier life. I have struggled with my weight all my life. Now I have type 2 diabetes & it has been even harder to acheive and maintain a healthy weight. Both of my parents suffered the effects of obesity before they died. I hope to be able to age gracefully and not suffer the way they did.

Just a question - if you concern is over whether or not they are taking the meds are you not the one that is paying for them? Call the pharmacy and see when the last refill was. If it hasn't been refilled, your money went somewhere, right?
And none of my business - but on God's green Earth is the unemployed, bad influence of a girlfriend still living under YOUR roof?
You know what you MUST do to make him "wake up and smell the coffee". Like Jenny posted earlier - make it real and stick to your guns.

I'm new here, and mostly just read....soaking in all the wisdom you all share! :-)
Feel I must put my two cents in, though.
First of all - GOOD FOR YOU!! It isn't called "tough love" for nothin'!
You've just done the best thing you could have for your child. It doesn't matter if he is 15 or 35....he will always be your child. :-)
I have a daughter who is an addict. She is also an alcoholic. At one point, I had to permanently lock her out of the house. I understand how difficult and heart-wrenching those decisions can be!!
Long story short - she had a child with her boyfriend/drug dealer.....and one year ago I adopted her (the 'baby'). She really only knows ME as her Mommy. I am the only one who has ever taken responsibility for her and have had sole custody of her (legally) since she was only a few months old. Adopting her required me proving both the bio-parents were unfit.....and that is no small feat in the legal system!! Both had their parental rights revoked....almost a miracle (and took 4+ yrs!)!
Now my 'granddaughter'/daughter is 6 yrs old.....
My addict daughter has finally gotten her act together and is clean!! She's been sober for almost a year!! Whooo-hoo!!! It had to be when SHE was ready and made the choice, though. Nothing - including having her baby taken from her - made her clean up until she was ready.
Stay strong....and although it's hard.....it is the best thing you can do for your child you love so dearly.
If you'd like to talk with me - feel free to PM me and I'll give you my number.
In the meantime - get in a support group. That will make all the difference in YOUR life!
I'm proud of you!!!
Julie

I'm so glad to hear you're doing better today! Yes - stress can really do some horrible things to our bodies.
Typed a response then my computer messed up and wouldn't send it......so I'll try again! :-)
My daughter is the same age and had been using as long as your son, too.
Remember it's is a disease. Certainly can inherit the trait, but many addicts come from families where no one else has done drugs before. My daughter is one of them as is your son.
PLEASE start learning....read as much as you can.....about addiction! It will really help you deal with things and you'll be more likely to 'help' your son - or at least will learn more about how to not enable him.
Join a support group..... you'll be amazed (and saddened) at how many of us there are out there trying to deal with their family members addiction. More families than not are touched by addiction and/or alcoholism.
Lastly - never 'beat yourself up' over not knowing your son was doing drugs. Addicts seem to have a built-in ability to "cover" their addiction/using - at least until it gets so out of control they aren't able to live life in any normal sense.
Take care and know you're not alone!
Call me anytime!!!
I often think we go through things in life (in part) to be able to share and help others as they go through similar cir****tances. :-)
Hugs,
Julie
