Prepping Prevents Pitfalls

I do some of the same things.

1)  We buy large portion meats especially those on sale.  I'm now wanting a Foodsaver as we've recently lost meat to freezer burn.

2)  I love veggies and have started buying more fresh veggies and making a couple of different recipes to last the week.  For instance, today I bought broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, mushrooms, Roma tomatoes and brussel sprouts.  I boiled some, broiled a mixture and added the mushrooms and Roma tomatoes to my chicken recipe I made in the crockpot.

3)  I always have deli meat and cheese available, ALWAYS.

4)  I usually keep cottage cheese and/or yogurt in the fridge at home and at work.  I also buy Turkey pepperoni fairly often to microwave for a quick snack at work.

5)  I use Rx bottles for my vitamins now (thanks Terry, my MIL gave me bunches).  Now to pack them regularly and keep them in my purse would help.  I also have some vits at work to take, I've been doing well except for my iron and the PM calcium.  Need to work on these.

6)  Protein shakes work great for me, I feel much better when I drink them.

I can't hardly do eggs still unless super duper moist.  I am also struggling with reheated meats lately except if they are in a sauce.

I'm like Paige, I get tired of eating the same thing.  I've promised myself this week is the week I get back on track and reset goals of where I'm going.  Five years is just around the corner, I want to be at goal then.....something to motivate me to get my tail in the right place.

Lots of great ideas! I already do most of them at some point during the week. One of the problems I have is getting off schedule with my vitamins when I get away from home. I finally came up with something that's been working pretty well and doesn't take up alot of room.

The purse I carry is small, in fact most of the time I stick my phone and debit card in my pocket and just carry the purse to keep things in the car! Anyway, I don't have room for RX bottles and such. I've been taking a snack size ziplock bag and sewing 3 seams top to bottom, making 4 sections. I put each 'meals' worth in each section. I still need them seperated into doses so I can be sure I don't forget any! This way I can throw a whole days worth in my purse or pocket, it's not bulky and is sealed.

One of the things I make ahead of time is cheesecake flavored greek yogurt. This is my favorite snack. I use the 1/2c containers and put about 3oz of yogurt and top with NSA cherry cheesecake. I get 5 small containers at a time so that's my weeks worth.....one a day for the week.

I keep snacks like ziplocks with almonds, string cheese and jerky in the car. For the weekends when we are out running the streets I pack a coolor with rollups, fresh veggies and dip, yogurt...sort of a car picnic. Instead of sitting in a restaurant, we find a shade tree in a parking lot and have our picnic!

I do a similar thing, I call it a "grill-a-thon"---on Friday or Saturday I buy mass quantities of several kinds of meat. Then I marinate it at least 24 hours---I want a lot of flavor!  On Sunday afternoon, it all gets cooked on the grill. Then I cut it thin (so it will thaw quickly) and put it in individual servings. (Looks like I need a Foodsaver!)  Then it gets frozen. So any given night I come home tired from work and will have 5-6 things to choose from. Grab a serving, nuke it, and add bag salad or steamed veggies and I'm ready!  Most meats (especially beef) I will undercook before I freeze it, so it won't be shoe leather when it's reheated.

Love this thread, has some great ideas!!
