Struggling

I need to get back into more excerise.  I remember when I first had surgery I couldnt' wait to workout.  Now it's like I don't have time.  When we first had surgery it was new and exciting.  I think now it's just a way of life and I would love to have back some of that excitment.  I work so hard to find the WOW's in life that will keep me going.  Last week I was at the thrift store and there was a pair of jeans I really liked but thought there is no way I can get these on.  They looked so small.  My boyfriend told me to just try them.  I GOT THEM ON!!  I didnt' by them because they were too short in the stride but I couldn't believe I got them buttoned.  So it's things like that that are keeping me going.  I am ready for some nice weather so that I can get outside more.  Now my vitamins are something I dont' forget.

Teena,

I dont' know so much about overcoming the fears so much as just trying to work through them. I think that's the best we can do.  We didn't get to where we were presurgery feeling confident and in control and secure, at least I didn't.

I am having a time with putting my head around my doctor saying that I still needed to lose 10 pounds but then he EXPECTS 20 pounds back on his patients.   I am determined to prove him wrong.

Add me to the list of those that has settled back up about 5 to 8 (sometimes 10) pounds from my lowest. I don't like it, but it seems my body wants to be there. I had an aunt that told me at Thanksgiving that she is glad I put the 5 pounds back on because I looked too thin and drawn when I was at my lowest.  And I look much healthier at this weight.

Those preconceived notions and scale numbers seem to stay with us no matter how we try to overcome them.

You know what's funny.  People are telling me I look much heathier now than I did.  But mentally when we were larger when someone said a person looked "heathy" or our children were just "healthy" it usually meant that they were heavy but that it was ok.  LOL  I have to get those kind of thoughts out of my head.  My poor daughter obsesses over her weight and she is a size 4/6.  She told me last night she never wanted to be fat.

Teena,

I am so glad you posted this.  I've been feeling exactly like you these past few months.  I also believe that these fears feed our bad eating habits.  It's a slippery slope.

If nothing else, just know that your posted touched me and now maybe I will be more willing to spend time out here and get the much needed support I need.  After all, this is a journey, we'll have to work on this "the rest of our lives".

Hugs,

We do all need each other.  I don't know how people do it alone.  It's nice to know that I can come here and learn that others are feeling just like me and that I am not wrong for feeling like I do.  That I am normal.

I guess Tina that most of us put some wt. back on.  Very few don't.  It doesn't mean it's right or wrong.  I think everyone needs a little obsessing about what they're eating or drinking in a way,but not too much of an obsession.  I obsess about how much liquids I get in and I know I would have gained more than the 20 lbs. I did if I didn't get in lots of liquids every day.  For me if I spend a lot of time drinking, I"m not cramming food into my mouth!

Karla, you know that is so true! If we get out liquads in then we eat so much less. I need to focus on that. Thanks! Luv ya!

I agree with you there.  I drink about 8-10 bottles of water a day plus I might have some tea or milk too when the water starts making me feel like I am drowning.  LOL

By the way, you look fantastic~Looks like you are doing wonderful from here! We just can't let the pre-op ways of thinking and dealing with food issues come back! Never ever! We have to find new ways to deal with our stress. And of course exercise is great for that. But I've got this little voice in me that wants to sabotage me like I am just not worth it, and I recognze it to be that same little voice that got me where I was in the first place...lol! I think STRUGGLE is the S in WLS-cause it is always gonna be a struggle but at least we are alive and living well now so it is worth it...sorry I rambled....
