Help - no loss in 10days and I'm only 3 weeks out
Hey guys,
I'm a little worried as I've not lost anything in 10 days. I'm 3 weeks out from surgery and I moved from liquids to purees on the 1st. I'm getting 50-65g of protein a day in. My dr says i need to be up to 70 but I'm having a hard time with that. I dislike my protein drinks but I realize I have to add them back if I can't make the 70g with food.
The weight poured off 20 before surgery and another 15 in the two weeks following. As soon as I added purees bam nothing, actually 1/2 a pound gain.
I've not been back to the gym as I get clearance to go back next week. But I've been walking, mostly wandering around shopping places for hours trying to get my walking in as it is 17deg outside.
I'm just lost and a little discouraged and hoping things will get moving soon. I'm going to try and make a food journal for the next few days so if I call my dr I've got something to show him.
Yesterday I had:
4oz SF protein pudding - 15g protein
3oz cheese - 24g
6oz protein shake - 21g
4oz beans w/ added protein powder - 10g
60oz of fluids (mostly crystal light and water)

Many of us had our first stall at week 3. It happens, your body is trying to compensate from lack of food = starvation. Keep doing your plan, you'll start losing again.
Week 3 to 5 I lost 1 lb, the Monday morning of week 6 (overnight) I lost 6 lbs.

Dana is absdolutely right. Your body is in shock from all the sudden weight loss and trying to hold on to ever calorie you feed it. I SWORE my surgery didn't work or that I FAILED it cuz I stalled early out too. Hang in there, keep doing what you're doing and I PROMISE, you will lose weight. I'm impressed that you're getting that much protein in at 3 weeks post-op. I think you're doing GREAT!!

Thankyou for supporting my protein intake. My dr is the tinyest little indian man on the planet and he gives me hell. I'm so afraid of the hair loss that I'm pushing myself to eat. If I had my way I'd still be on popsicles, maybe a sf fudgesicle here and there.
I know I eat stuff with low protein, we went out to dinner with friends and all I could have was a cup of tomato bisque. Not the best calories but still I've got to be social. I think trying to get in all the vitamins and supplements and feeling weird after eating this or that is just becoming a chore.
The feeling of no loss, plus putting probably more effort and hope into any weight loss venture in my entire life with no results is overwhelming. I've been off birthcontrol for the first time in 5 years and I'm sure that is adding to my little episode of crazy today.

The hair loss varies with everyone, and getting your protein in helps but does not prevent it. I was getting 100 gm a day in when mine started falling out at 3 months. But it doesn't last and it quit by month 6 and started growing back in by month 9. Not trying to depress you - just want you prepared for down the road!
You are doing much better than I was at getting your protein in at 3 weeks out. But you are right about the shakes - they may not taste the greatest, but it is the only way you will get it in. I still try to do 2 a day and if I get busy and only get 1 in a day I can tell the difference in the way I feel.
As for eating out - sometimes you just have to make the best choice you can and don't sweat it - it's just one meal! You have many more to make up for it. And as you get further out it will be easier because you will be able to have all the proteins on the menu.
If you want to know what is going on with your body and why you stalled out after the first "easy" pounds, read the blog on my profile titled Why Stalls Happen. I copied it from a post because I was so impressed with the explanation.
One last thing - are you measuring yourself? A lot of the weeks I didn't lose weight I lost inches - didn't make any sense to me but it happens to nearly everyone so it wasn't just me being weird LOL.

We are in the same boat! I had my band on Dec 11th. the 1st 2 or 3 weeks I lost 10 lbs..I was over the moon. I weighed this last week since I started mushies and didnt lose zilch. I was freakin out (I have screwed up, ate too much etc etc). I was bummed but I think its like they said...your body is in starvation mode almost from liquids and it normal. I have .5 cc in my band from the surgery and cant go for a fill til 6-7 weeks post op. Just hang in there and hopefully it will get better!

Hi I am new here. Thought I would come and see my Texas board. Seems more are RNY but I will post here anyways :)
I had the band on 12/29 I lost 10 pounds and then on Monday the 4th it stopped. I have been fluctuating from 266 to 265 back and forth up to today. It is frustrating me. It helps me some knowing that the band is a slower wg loss and I was prepared for that. Plus I knew it would stop, your body freaks after awhile and needs to hold on to the fat and readjust. I know it will pick up. Yours will pick up greater than mine being the surgery you had but none the less mine will pick up and I am okay with it. Would I like the scale to move, heck ya but I am okay for now. :)
Good luck. I am also going to do measurements b/c like previous poster a lot say you lose inches during a stall.

I typically track my weight loss by month. I lost 20 pounds the first two weeks after my surgery, then no more until week 5. As others have said, stalls happen as the body tries to catch up with the sudden reduction in calories. I've found that, so far, I've averaged a loss of about 20 pounds a month. So, if I don't lose for a week or two, I'm okay with that, because it will balance itself out.
