Today's word- Accountability

Women think fitting into old jeans is better than sex or a promotion

This is the title of an article that was on Yahoo today. It made me smile and made me have to agree unless of course the man was Kevin Costner (YES, I'm OLD) or the promotion included LOTS of cold hard cash!!

Now on to today's word's of wisdom (or BS cuz it's just me yammering).  Today's word is ACCOUNTABILITY...

Question:  Why does Weigh****cher's work so well? Answer: Cuz you have to go to that meeting every Tueday night and get on the scale.  ACCOUNTABILITY...hmm, my favorite word.

I just read an article 2 days ago that said.."those that kept a FOOD DIARY lost and KEPT OFF significantly more weight than those that didn't"...anyone see a trend here?  Again...ACCOUNTABILITY

Together we CAN do this and accountability is the key.  So if you've gained a little or haven't lost as much as you would like.  Don't shy away from OH, do the opposite.  Come here EVERYDAY where we will be here to guide you and cheer you on.  PLAN your menu, stick to the plan, LOG your food and POST every single day for the best results.

Great word Steph! I am up for the challenge. I know why I have put on a few pounds and I am working on it! It's not my eating, it's the liquid form of refreshment! Bill and I both have vowed to be accountable to each other and so far this year it is working. We have drank once in the whole new year! For us...that's a Wow moment!!  Those dang cross addictions can really sneak up on ya if you are not careful and even more so, they can take control of ya, just like food did in the past!

I like your choice of words. I say words, because it's the "TOGETHER" and "ACCOUNTABILITY" that I like the most. It's so much easier with support and if we all come together...there's no limit!

Thanks for the post and you're not old if you think Kevin Costner is HAWT!!! I myself prefer Sean Connery, the older, more mature and refined Sean Connery! Shaken...not stirred!!

Love ya!!!

Gina I am so PROUD of you and Bill.  I know how the two of you have struggled with that cross addition.  I see several others on this board that are heading in the same direction and I just want to shout at them to stop before it's too late.

When I was in college I was drinking a FIFTH of bourbon every day.  One morning I woke up and caught myself fixing a drink at 10 AM.  I poured the bottle down the drain and didn't touch a drop for over 10 years.  Now I have 1-2 oz's of alcohol a month.  For one thing the calories will kill you!!  Can't wait to toast you with a Diet Coke on board the cruise ship!!

Blah, OK I 'm "blahing" because I need this, really bad.  I just don't feel good about myself lately, I don't want to be a good girl and do what I need to do, I need my ass kicked.

I had a very rewarding and much needed call with Gina the other day.  I'm taking it daily to make myself get back on track.  It's overwhelming when you let things slip and then have to regroup and get it back together.

Word of advice to others preparing for, just out of or a couple years post op.  Take it from those of us that are further out and see the struggles that come.  Make commitments to yourself to seek help (therapy) if needed to learn why we do the things we do and get coping skills for when the "void" returns.

Yes, I'm still focused on "my void".....what is missing, IDK but I am getting ready this weekend with the right foods, preparing a months worth of vitamins and going forward.  Onward and Upward, I deserve it!

Dana, you ABSOLUTELY deserve it.  Like Gina said, we need to work as hard AT our surgery as we did to GET our surgery.  It truly is a gift and we need to treasure it and know that WE are WORTH the effort.

I REALLY think that we were all more motivated back when the TMB was a more active site.  I MISS the old TMB where we had over 100 posts to the train everyday, where we had water balloon fights, cheerleaders, shout-outs, had 3-4 PAGES of new posts EVERYDAY.  There were days I spent the WHOLE day on the board cuz it was so active.  Now there are 5-6 new threads each day and the train has dwindled down to the same few.  I used to know everything about everyone and what was going on in their lives, not just about their WLS.  I fear that the Newbies will miss out on the GREAT friendships and lifelong bonds we have made with each other.  I DO understand that life moves on and people get on with their lives BUT most of us have time for facebook and a whole lot spend hours playing mindless games so why not use that time and energy HERE to reconnect with people and enrich each other's lives?  FB only gives me a snippet of insight into what's going on in people's lives and with our work schedules and physical distance, it is hard to call and text all day.

I was very glad to see Susan and Kathy both say this week that they NEED to come back here for support and accountability.  Now I guess my question is "How do we make it great again?"  Sorry I got WAY off track but you know how much I love OH for helping me to realize my WLS goals and for giving me the best friends I've ever had in my life!!  ONE of them is YOU and YES you DO DESERVE to be healthy and happy and to feel good about yourself!!

Thanks Steph and Gina!

I agree with you Steph the board is not the same and I've gotten away from daily post, inspiring support and supporting others.  I MISS the old OH, I miss the old train and friendships that have dwindled.  I wish we would pull all of our lurkers back out (David, smile I'm talking about you ).  I miss Tanya too :(.

Steph, so much to say on this but my mind is off and running and my fingers/mouth cannot keep up.  I'm with you, but I feel I undrstand the withdrawl too.  I won't get into it all cause that's just more of why I'm not here so much anymore.  But I tell you, what..I'm game.  I'm with you 100% and will make a commitment to be more "out there" than I have the past few months.  You always seem to poke and prod me just the right way.  HUGS

Stop right there!  Stop focusing on the "void" and instad concentrate on the positive.  What do you have in your life?  What good things are you doing?  What great things did you accomplish this week?  Having trouble listing them all?  Come here cause I can list bunchs of positive impacts you've made here and at your home this week.  You've told us about them.  You just don't recognize the strengths right now so let us help you.

1. You are an observant, loving and caring mother and your boys are lucky to have you.  Not many mothers would stay as involved with schooling when it gets tough.  Not many mothers fight for their kids when they aren't even sure exactly what it is they need.  You do it.  Every day you work with your boys to ensure they receive the best education and best medical options available and you don't stop until you get the help, advise and satisfaction that your boys deserve.  I applaud your efforts becuaes as a parent 2 two ADD boys (one that is 20 and still has issues) I know exactly what you're going through and how difficult and draining it is.  So pat yourself on the back!!

2.  You are an inspiration and a motivator to many WLS peeps.  Even on the days where its not all rosy you kep going.  You look ahead and you reach for whatever rope or hand you can find to pull yourself back up.  Again, this is not easy.  But you're doing it.  You are a not only a survivor but you're a WLS winner and a life success story.

I'm so glad you're here on OH.  I have learned so much from you and your journey.  Please keep sharing it all.  It absolutely makes a difference to me...and in the end...to you!
